Just arrived home from a 5 week trip to the above area. Went via the South Gippsland Hwy from Melbourne to Sale then via the Princes hwy as far as Eden. We camped at Franklin River, Reeves Beach, Marlay Point, Snowy River, Bellbird Creek Hotel, Genoa, Imlay Creek & Boydtown among many other spots. We had a great time! Oysters $7 per dozen we ended up eating 6 dozen.

We were there at the same time,we were in an unpowered site opposite the second amenities block closer to the water.
Mark the manager was on holidays that was why the Seahorse Inn were managing the bookings.I think you were behind the first amenities block,you left on the Tues. or Wednesday. On the hill behind you were the ruins of the old lookout tower and a church.

Yep! There was a van over closer to the trees & beach pretty much all of the time we were there. The Seahorse Inn serve a lovely meal. We went over for a drink a few times as well. The weather was sensational except when the smoke from the fuel reduction burns wafted it our way. Pity we never met, we've never met anyone from this forum as yet. We checked out the ruins.
Hi Keith, Love your work!! I may have asked you before (I did ask someone on the forum, so forgive me if it was you), but what gear are you using. Specifically what is your main lens for your wildlife shots. I have a Nikon 600mm lens on the wishlist, but someone recently suggested that the Sigma 150-600mm is not a bad bit of glass. Massive difference in price. about $10k more for the Nikon 600mm! Will appreciate your thoughts. Cheers, Bob

All our images are taken by my wife & I. She uses a Nikon SLR together with a Sigma 150-500mm & a Tamron 150-600mm lens. I use a Sony/Minolta SLR with a Sigma 50-500mm & a Tamron 150-600mm lens. As we walk around looking for wildlife to photograph we both carry Panasonic Lumix TZ70 travel cameras to take scenery & macro shots of flowers, orchids, insects & for scenery. The Lumix cameras are extremely versatile & zoom out to 720mm, they actually take a good wildlife image as well. At around $500 each they are leaps ahead of a normal compact camera. They're slightly larger than a normal sized compact but still fit in your pocket. The Sigma 150-600mm that you mention has got good reviews & would be a good purchase. Our Tamrons were compared to a Canon 400mm prime lens & came up well. If you want to look at reviews for the Sigma & Tamron 600's check out the dustinabbott.net website.

Hi Keith, Thanks for the info. I put in an order for the Sigma 150-600mm lens this morning! The "dustinabbott" site was great, and helped with my decision. Might need a bigger camera bag I think, and I must stop buying!! First non-Nikon lens I have bought so excited to try it.
