Firstly, alternators are self regulating. Maximum loads do not cook alternators because of this self limiting maximum current.

Secondly, a 100Ah battery will only last a few days between charges. There is no way you will get 7 - 10 days out of a full battery charge. In cool weather your fridge will draw 30-40Ah of current per day.

Hi Stoney
Check eBay and other google search sites for your tow bar. Suppliers from England carry so many car parts that we don't have . Often the freight charges are not that bad.. Good luck.

Any competent tow bar maker could make and certify one.
I made my own. It was certified by an approved engineer (along with some other stuff).

Ran around for years with a 40 litre Engel in the back, 85 AH deep cycle, and 2x36Watt 30 year old panels that did not have a regulator. Charged the deep cycle direct from the alternator while travelling and charged the laptop with a 150Watt modified square wave inverter plugged into the ciggie lighter socket. Panels sat in the sun if camped up for a while. If no sun, the deep cycle capacity would do me for two days.

Currently have one setup of a 40AH LiFePo on the end of a D250S with inputs from alternator and a 150Watt panel. Also have a 700Watt PSW inverter in that setup. I treat the system as set and forget if only camped up for a couple of consecutive days.

Are you hanging or tenting over night? Avatar picture could be either.

tks for alternator advice.

i do not hang, i use a small tent with a big tarp. this protects from sun and rain. i can light a fire under tarp and cook. one wet night at bournda an injured roo sat next to me by fire for hours. i love it when it rains all other campers are stuck in their domes.

Cool, could not see clearly on my phone. I often use a hammock when bushwalking. Love sitting/lying in the hammock under the tarp in the rain.

tks peter n margaret, tracked a bloke in sydney who says he makes em, just waiting for house sale to go through (4-5 weeks), then off to see him added bonus he near trailer maker...that means i can add fixed 250 watt panel (attatched to jaycar strut so when parked 99.99 % of time i can tilt panel to sun), agh agh agh..more power as tim the toolman would say !
