Antenna Tec

When we bought our new van last year it came equipped  With an antenna tec arial similar to the winguard, the wingard model has been replaced by the new phased array model, the older model aerials winguards and antenna teck can have the new phased array heads fitted but is it worth it??has anyone had the updated model fitted it would be nice to know how it compares to the older models.

Ron, are you sure the newer Winegard antenna will fit the Antenna Tec? It certainly works much better for vertically polarised signals in marginal situations (fringe areas.)

Yeah Peter it will fit I just have to exchange one little piece apparently, as you know the old winguards ar fitted to most vans so this information could be handy to know for lots of people.

My antenna tec works most places, but to simply exchange the head is a small job to do to have the latest tec?

There must be people out there that have bought a new van that had the older version on there trade in.They would know if the newer phased array is a good thing,or is it just same as the old one.

Hi Ron,

I had the "old style " winegard antenna on my van and fitted the retrofit new one, just brilliant. Where I park my van at home in backyard could only receive channel 31(my neighbor has huge conifer trees ). In the driveway  (out front ) I received all channels with old antenna but only channel 31 in backyard. Now with new antenna receive all channels in the backyard as well as in front driveway. It worked for me.

Cheers Owen.

Hi. Our Van is not built yet but after visiting a Caravan Show we were very interested in the King Jack Digital type TV antenna. It is lower than the Aircon unit so no need to wind up and down and it has an easy to use two finger swivel that rotates the unit. It also comes with a attenuation button and lights to get the best signal. As we are new to Caravanning should we stick with the old winegard style or is this newer model better? I have been told that it only does horizontal reception rather than Vertical (whatever that means) and could have difficulty in regional areas. Anyone out there had the wingard then replaced with the King Jack type and give feedback positive or negative? Much appreciated.

Bon, we have just changed our aerial on our new van that only did horizontal. Doesn't work in most rural areas as they have vertical towers, including around Griffith, Blue Mountains and many other places. Other campers were getting reception in rural areas and we were getting nearly zilch.
