Ibis Air Command Unit

On a recent trip out west our Ibis Air Conditioner wouldn't  heat up in the morning, the fan was blowing cold air. The outside temp was about 3 - 5 deg. Had to resort to the diesel heater. Is this normal in cold conditions ?

Thanks

Mick

Mick ... I am no expert on this subject, but from what I have read on this and other forums it appears that some or perhaps all van air conditioners will not fire up when the temperature drops below a certain degree.
This may or may not have been the case.
I also take it that you were on 240 power at the time.
We have a diesel heater and we also carry one of those small electric fan heaters, for when we are on 240w.
No doubt you will get a number of responses or perhaps just use the search link for further info.

Yes we were on 240v and if that's the case , we will invest in a small electric heater.
Thanks

Heater wise.
Providing you staying at power supply's

Is one or two, Depending on size of van.
240v Fan heaters.
That's all I've used since the '60's.

Caravan Air-Conds have never been any good at the warming trick.
They bad enough trying to cool without blowing your ears apart.

Hi Goldcoaster, agree with Macka17, air con not real great with the heating bit, they will heat for a while then blow cold air (heat gone). I haven't got diesel or gas heating.I do have 3x 110amp hour batteries and enough solar power to keep them charged  with an inverter this allows us to run our electric blanket  (doesn't use much power and is nice and snug). As Macka said fan heaters are the way to go if you have 240 power. We also have a 2kva generator only used to run air conditioner when not on power  (cold only) and maybe top up batteries when in overcast conditions. Generator will also run fan heater on low.

Cheers Owen.

Thanks Macka,

The van is great for us, the tug has done very well  (so far). It's done just on 540000 kms,

I've never had to top up oil or water. Hope it keeps going well.

Cheers Owen.

Yea but it's a (yuk) Toyota.

That's like buying a (double yuk) Hol(gasp koff koff)den....

From a Ford/Nissan may hey chuckle.

You have as little troubles As I had with my GQ and GU and you'll be wrapped.
Zero.

PS, if it earlier model 100. Make sure front suspension had been modified.

They had a bad habit of dropping the front end on the deck in any corrugations.
I saw a few.
