Hi, have Jayco van with two 100 amp batts installed, is it beneficial to charge them once and a while via a 25A smart charger. I am thinking this would give them a full test and cycle rather than charging via van or solar on the road. If so, do I just apply clamps straight to batts, and is it positive to one batt and negative to the second?
For parallel charging of batteries it is Positive to Positive and negative to negative to maintain 12 volts, then connect charger red to Pos black to Neg. You may wish to do each battery individually.
I would rather not disconnect them as it then will probably reset my battery monitor settings which was a real pain to correct last time that happened. If I leave them both connected as are then as asked before is it a clamp onto one post per batt, pos and neg or is it just clamps on the one battery
My 2 x 110a AGM's lasted over 7 1\2 yrs and still good when van went.
340W panels on roof but I always kept the Waeco fridge running 12 mths of yr. Using van or not.
Just to cycle battery's. Often a light too.
A lot on vanners forum. (Exspurts) said that was bad idea.
But I've done it on vans and yachts for decades.
Always got long lives from battery's.
5ish yrs from Exide Extremes. 7 plus out of AGM.s.
Deep Cycles. I NEVER had any good results from.
3 1\2 to 4 yrs max.EVER.
25A external coupled charger wired in or not
does good job. But if you leave it once too long b4 checking, and there's a short in there.
you could (I did once) lose a battery.
And Single pole or combined pole for external charge like that makes no diff.
My built in charger. (ex marine) had/has three outlet connections for multi batteries at once.
All fed whatever power to suit each.
UP TO max rating of charger.
