Getting on the road - NP300 Nissan Navara

I'm a virgin nomad, looking to buy my first tug. However, the choice of vehicles is somewhat vast and confusing. I have been test driving options and it appears the Nissan NP300 2 door cab ute seem to be hitting the mark.  Its a 2.3lt twin turbo. Has anyone had any experience with this vehicle. I am towing initially a old cub drifter campervan but have intensions of going to a 15'/17' pop top.

A friend of mine is towing a 24' Future Systems van with one. He is quite happy with it. Performs far better than his previous Pathfinder. He regularly tows his van up and down hills like the Clyde and brown mountains. The future Systems van would be way heavier than your intended van.

Go for it.

Hi.
Any ute will have no problem towing one of them.
Just those tiny twin Turbo donks
Lots of technology. lots of potential problems mating to big bills.
Lose a turbo you ain't got nothing.
Just a rubber band.
Also they'll have no torque down low where you tend to need it towing.
Tiny little pistons till Turbo's come in.
Same as Amarok.
A decent sized engine. as long as it brings some much needed reliability with it.
will make a big difference.
There are better on market for less money.

Hi David

Welcome to the forum and all the best with your choice of towing vehicle.

I do drive a Nissan Navara, a couple of years old previous Spanish built model, most impressed with the finish and the comfort of our dual cab ute.

Yes, I would like the idea of coils springs in the back but it still better then previous models Nissans for ride.

Enjoy your future travels.

If you get the twin turbo model there is no turbo lag like all the other twin cabs have. My friend has the twin turbo model and the improvement over his older is very marked. It has nothing to do with the motor size, anything with a turbo has no power until the turbo comes in. With the new D23 the second turbo has been designed to supply power earlier than any single turbo model. Go and do some tyre kicking and take a test drive Macka.

Take your pick of the of the current crop of utes, any one of them will do & none of them are particularly special.

All of them will be updated in the near future.

Keeping up with the latest model may prove to be expensive.

Here we go again, all the Neanderthals with their "youve gotta have cubes." It's not the cubes that count, it's what you do with those cubes that count. Back in the 90s my 2.5 l Disco out performed the Nissans and Toyotas in the hills with their huge lumps of iron.

YEP Pete.
and my 3 ltr Patrol with D-Tronic chip/exhaust upgrade outpulled yours too.
and 15 yrs later.
Still towing a 3 ton van is still doing such.

All that technology is fine.
But after the stress you put on pistons and crank with big/heavy loads
over longer periods of time.
I think you'll find the bigger pots/crank block etc
will be in better condition.
Less overall loading.
The ONLY reason MFG;s have gone smaller/high tech is one.

= = Exhaust emissions.

Smaller donk. Less emissions. easier to tune out.
No matter what you tiny high tech affectionado's say.
Put a baby donk of yours (any one) against a bigger. one.

Both towing a big load, sach as 3 ton van. regularly for 13/15 yrs.
and see which is healthiest at end of it.
WIth LESS maint to keep it there.

My Patrol cost me. total for actual breakdown. $450 for key ring sensor.
That was it. apart from normal maint/service/tyres etc.

Those small donk;s are designed for driving with cleaner air.
NOT towing big loads.
Speak to any Proper diesel mechanic..

Why do you think trucks have gone UP to 650plus HP engines.
NOT down to smaller sized, high tech, more economical ones.

Same reason again mate. CUBES......

Little, high tech fine. for driving round in.
