TV Antenna

We are looking at the Milenco Omni Directional TV antenna (mushroom type) and before we go purchasing, I am wondering if anyone has one installed and am curious as to how well it works.  Thanks in advance

It is my belief after 40 odd years of vanning that directional antennae are preferable. A phased array or yagi type together with an amplifier would be the way to go,but you will need an exterior pole for mounting.Omni directional antennae look good, and don't need moving to detect a signal and fit neatly on the roof.Over the years I have tried a couple..one in fact well over $300..OK in good signal areas but in marginal areas not good.Go and have a talk to the people at your local Jaycar dealer before you spend the hard earned stuff on a dud.

I agree with patrol - also have a chat with a couple of service staff at caravan retailers - the older ones have a wealth of knowledge about all thing to do with 'vans

Yes, my experience is that omni directional aerials are equally poor in all directions.

Yep.
And after 50 odd yrs.
My opinion of any tv reception.(apart from 98% of it all being rubbish)
Is that if you want it regularly. and ALL over Aust.
Buy a Vast box and sat dish.

NO tv arial will give any reception, once out of range of the towers.
Regardless.

SAT. apart from in forest and heavy cloud will give it everywhere.

When you look at what they charge for these "modern" super antenna's you chuckle.
NONE work everywhere.
Why bother.

Oh And when we did use antenna's the best I found were the ones that were just a straight shaft with booster at rear.
and reducing in length cross bars from rear to the front.

Nowadays. we take Blueray. and 2 terra hdd with Movies. and that old ant for when near metro areas.

News/weather.

I have HF Reciever (2 to 30 meg marine) gives accurate weather all over Aust at that time.

String out the wire and away you go.

Yes, some of it is BUT there are many great docos etc

and as I am quite disabled I enjoy the good tv stuff.

Don't put everyone on the same basket as yourself Macka,

you are only a spec in the grand scheme of things, and NOT the only expert on here!!no

Do I assume you pay copyright royalties on those movies, or do you steal them?

Aussie Paul. smile

Agree mate.
Docco's on SBS mainly are good. that's pretty much what we watch when we do.
and the Rugby.
But all this soapy and watch us at home now prog's. from here and the States.
Jeez.

Those movies.
I pay acess to streaming per month. In American $$'s To American account.
and get from America. So in my eyes consider it legal.
I'm paying for them and getting use of them from another country..

Nothing done in Aust at all apart from using my carrier.
They stream from open service to anywhere.

Just have a coupla Players to suit different formats
from different streamers/Downloaders and you away.

It's a good system. and if you just "stream" (Watch them on air.)
you not copying anything, so breaking NO laws as I know of.
Just watch. turn off and do another one.
No hard copy. no passing on to others. Just yourself.

Basically NO record of anything kept on your hard. so basically no Pirating.

You CAN record if you want.
But If I was to do that to good ones worth watching again.
I'd keep on a throwaway 2 terra Hard. (That'd be "slightly" naughty)

Yep.
So If I admitted to doing something like that. I would be stealing,
as would millions of others.
BUT.... Would we??. Admit that is.

This is all just Cyberspace.
anybody saying anything to anybody.
with no way of proving/disproving any words said or implied.

Mainly all fantasy hey.

Hope you feeling better mate.
I've been on heavy doping, Patches and Opiates for near 26 yrs now.
Going through Nerve Blocking at present. (That's interesting if it works)

ps/.
I'm NOT even a speck in the way of things, here or elsewhere.

Just a person who's enjoying the bit he's got left. and loves to stir..
Keeps the brains active hey.
