Hi,

Has anyone with a Mazda BT50 had their Ecu remapped or did you just add a chip what were the adavntages or none at all just thinking about it at the moment.

As with everything else there are good point and some bad points.

Don't know a Mazda but they (common Rail electronic systems) all 99% similar.

A chip does it. I've had/have now, several.
a cheaper way of doing, that "does the job" but remapping is better.

Remap fine tunes the individual engine/vehicle, to what YOU want it for.
setting things as you want , less stress etc on system too.
Not just timing and fuel delivery as chips do.

Just get a dyno b4 and after.

also. LOOK AROUND. some are a lot better, reputation than others.

and if you go that way.
Make sure you get a chip or disk with a copy on it.
Just in case when it goes in for service. they put you on the computer and "Update" everything.
incl setting you back to factory again.

I had a mate that happened to and he had to go back to where it was done for a reset.
A long way in his case.

Hi 

I'd be interested to see how you go I have read a lot on the Ford Ranger Forum and else where about remapping.

Spoke to ford yesterday as car was in for service and I enquired how much longer on my warranty .

If you remap it they will void the warranty.They said if it was a plug in pigging backing and you took it out b4 service they wouldn't detect it 

I'm mainly interested from the economy viewpoint when towing , I reckon the cars got enough power and I tow 3.2 tonne

A chip "piggy backs" onto the ECU and basically can only alter fuel pressure (can be dangerous if overdone) and fuel timing if a good quality chip.

A remap can alter far more parameters and much safer if done by the right tech !

A chip on my truck, an Izusu NPR, was going to cost $2200, a remap with dyno before and after, with a few extra tweaks cost me $1800 and took around 3 hours work.

Would I do it again yes, in a heartbeat, the truck now is far more driveable, changes gear far less, especially on inclines towing. Money well spent IMO.

Hi,

In my first post about remapping some said about having a dyno done b4 and after what will tell me, the place I got quote from say are not required as they have done over 100 Mazda bt50.

The place my quote was from Quantum tuning in Ballarat in Victoria.

If you are not going to extreme tunes dyno probably not required if you have standard mileage, exhaust and intake as the other 100.
I had a standard remap done on my Toyota and it makes it a lot more drivable than before when it had a high end chip and 3 hours of dyno time to get it right. (big torque at a certain rev band)
I don't know the organisation you are dealing with however they should be able to give you a reference to one of their happy 100!
