Northwest Coastal Highway south of Carnarvon. This one is getting popular with travellers of all types. For $12pp you get to park up under big trees along a dry riverbed. The sites have firepits and you can collect wood or buy it. There are showers, toilets, outdoor camp kitchens with free bbqs. The highlight of the camp is the natural artesian pools where you can have a warm soak. There is a communal area with fire and some regular events eg damper making. Good value!
(re Wooramel) I forgot to mention: If it starts to rain, either prepare to stay a few extra days or get out quick. Although its only 1km off the highway its a very slippery, slidey trip when wet.
It is interesting when you know that the gravel road in is actually the station's runway. I have flown with Justin from it & it is disconcerting to be on the take-off run & speed under that gumtree!
