Hi. We are newbies with a 21ft van and a Toyota workmate ute 2.7 petrol. We know we will have to upgrade but wondering if we should do the electric brakes in it first to see if it will tow ok. What do you all think. Do it or upgrade.......Frankie & Steve
And it's welcome from us two 2 Frankie.
I would be a little concerned about little tojo's ability to safely tow your van if you are planing to upgrade I for one would surgest also sooner the better .

Thanks guys, yes looking around now for a upgrade. Van arrives today after road worthy. Then the job of fitting it out. Will keep checking here to see if anyone selling 4x4...Frankie
If you are considering buying a Mazda, be aware that Mazda and Ford seem to have had a falling out. The new BT50 (2018) will soon be a Izuzu clone rather than a Ranger clone.
That means the Ranger will be the only one with the 3.2lt motor.
I'm a new member and not sure if I REPLY in this section as i really want to start a new questions...anyway...I've heard that we can upgrade our Prado's pulling capacity to 3000kg by replacing the springs etc at a registered engineer and get a new certificate. Has anyone done this with success? We really don't want to change cars to tow a heavier van if possible....thanks
Wishing to know if anyone has towed with a Toyota Workmate 2.7 petrol pls?
I have recently acquired a Roadstar little rippa that has a 720 Tare so assuming the van will be around 1000 to 1100 or so on road.
Already own an older 4wd Suzuki Vitara that will tow the van locally with a lesser towing capacity than the 2500 Toyota ute for fishing on rougher hilly terrain for the local trips or a few days out at the dam chasing the odd elusive fish.
Hoping to keep the old reliable Vitara as long as possible but looking at a 2.7 Toyota 2wd for the long hauls on road with a little tinny on top. With a steel or alluminium tradies tray on the rear for Engels, fishing, prospecting gear etc.
Anyone had any experiences or recommendations please, be most welcome.
G'day Ron; A real can of worms (not suitable for fishing either).
I suggest you familiarise yourself with the true legal towing capacities, no assumptions, use weighbridge and check weights. If the "scalies" pull you over they will ping the driver and not only will your entire rig need to be towed from the spot where you are booked, heavy fines and demerit point loss are assured.
Thanks Possum.
Have done the calculations in the past but will do so again though.
The 720 Tare on the 2500 towing capacity and 2030 GVM Toyota Workmate works out comfortably from memory.
I am off to tease some yellabelly now.
Thanks.
Cheers.
