I decided to work out the diesel usage in my diesel heater as I have been using it every night of late.
It has been run on it's lowest setting for 90% of the time and on the highest setting for 10% of the time. (The 10% was mainly to burn off carbon at the end of each nights heating).
From a measured 4 litres of diesel the heater ran a total of 44 hours and 37 minutes. At the price the diesel cost, this equates to nine and a half cents per hour on average. Fairly cheap Imo and makes up somewhat for the high initial purchase price of these heaters. It's still the best purchase I ever made for my van.
Hope someone finds this info useful.
Cheers, John

Philw it is the one sold by Pinnacle. Many people mistakenly think they are the Planer, but they are in fact the Belief Diesel Heater, same ones as sold by the Tasmanian crowd.

Thanks John. Yes, I thought they were Planar. Apart from that low diesel use, are you happy with it? My good wife and I are in a heated and lively debate about getting one. So far the pendulum is leaning my way. I think?.. any here hoping.......
For sure Philw, more than happy with it. Most mornings I just click the digital controller and shortly afterwards get up to a toasty warm van. Don't know now why I thought about it for a whole week before I bought one. You won't regret it.
(Mrs Philw, you know you want it )
Cheers, John

Hey john I use a cup full of kero in a tank every now and the keeps the start up smoke away and I feal it works better . I got the same as you but my tanks about 15 lts .
Hi. I had the Ebersbacher fitted before I headed to Mildura and Broken hill. After 3 very cold evenings and mornings I had use 1.5 litres. I thought that was brilliant. I had to turn it down to 13 in the mornings as it was too hot in the van. Great product and works very well. Colin P
I understand that the Planar/Belief has 2 methods of operation.
One that Cycles and
The other setting that the heater /Fan runs all the time.
Our unit cycles, ie heating the van up to the desired temperature then gradually the fan/heat tapers off then at some point heat/fan starts up again to bring the temperature up to the set level. It is possible to set the temperature so that the unit runs all the time at low heat/low fan speed, but I am not able most of the time to set this up, so...
Can the Belief Heater on the second setting, run at low heat/low fan speed/very low fan noise, all the time until say switched off/runs out of diesel.
Just interested, am not going to change over our heater.
To answer some comments; Mr glassies I have not used any kero yet. I never have any start up smoke or smell. I wonder if it is a case of some units do and some don't?
Peter, yes the Belief units can be switched to run both the ways you mentioed. I run the continuous method, ie low temp, low fan speed, low fan noise. They can run in this mode at any heat level. Also healthier for your batteries, not having the glow plugs firing up each time the thermostat kicks in.
Steve, yes I am still away, for another week at least. Come to a fork in the road at Pt Wakefield, so I went left and ended up covering every square inch of Yorke peninsula. Got back to the fork and took the other road. Spending the next week driving around between there and pt Augusta. (I think) After tonight I will probably be out of internet service for a bit.
Cheers, all.
John
