Newbies almost ready to go

Hello fellow nomads. My name is Pauline and my better half is Joe. We are retiring at the end of the year (yay) and we have just bought a 2014 22' caravan and are busy at the moment getting to know it on our front lawn. We are hoping to get on the road for a few small trips and then travel further afield. We call Wanneroo in WA our hometown and have traveled up and down the west coast many times over the last 20 years or so but now hope to be doing it at a much slower pace.

I am so glad that I have found this site as you all sound like a wonderful knowledgeable bunch that offer some great advice when someone cries for help. I have been reading your posts as a guest and have finally plucked up enough courage to join in and say hi.

So looking forward to maybe meeting some of you on the road. Stay safe Pauline

Hello almost there

May I be one of the first to welcome you to the forum

As you say, there is plenty of information, and plenty of friendly people, who are only too willing to share their knowledge, when someone asks a question

I hope that when you do start travelling, you have many happy trips

Can I suggest you get out of the 'Wild West' ASAP as my head brave has sharpened his scalping knife and ithing to try it out in the wild west.

And it's welcome from us two2 hope you have fun here and learn lots

" Wonderfull knowelledgable bunch" hey, now big words like that will have Doug sending his braves over there, whoops looks like there heading that way already, but don't worry too much as you didn't use that four letter word starting with a W and ending with K with O and R in the middle then you would be in trouble with the Chief Bigtime .

So all good stay safe out there and have fun

Woody

Welcome almostthere, beat you to retirement by 12 months believe me you won't miss working you will always find plenty of things to do including hitting the road. We also travelled up and down that coast a fair bit having lived and worked for a few years in Dampier. Our first daughter was born in 1980 at the Dampier District Hospital with a cyclone threatening that part of the coast so unlike the rest of us NSW roaches she is a true sandgroper.

Well what a wonderful welcome thank you all. I am sure that we will learn lots from reading your posts and have heaps of fun along the way. Nice to hear from you The Belmont Bear, that sounded a bit scary giving birth during a cyclone! We worked up on ****atoo Island just north of Derby and also spent a great deal of time in Newman and Port Hedland working hence all the traveling up and down the west coast. But even though we have done a great deal of traveling along the coast it's really just been to get from A to B with quick overnight stops so once we get moving in our caravan we are hoping of more of a snail pace. We also have spent time at 40 mile just south of Karratha and have just heard that they have now put a 30 day restriction to camp there. I know that a lot of retirees spent most of Perth winter there enjoying the 30 deg temperatures but from what I can gather there seems to be restrictions on a lot of the cheaper camping areas now. We are hoping to find bush camps rather than caravan parks for the most part....much research to be done. Stay safe and have fun everyone
