Planning a trip to The Alice!?

There is mention of a GN "kneesup" in Central Australia next year.

Earlier this year I posted details of yet another drive across the desert from Leonora to Ayers Rock.

It's about 1000 klms, (give or take) of well maintained gravel road. There is fuel and supplies available at four outlets.

There are camping areas at each community. Keep in mind, you/we are not permitted to go into the actual communities.

Camping off road is no problem There are literally hundreds of places to pull right off the road in complete safety.

The fuel and shop/s are well away from the private housing.

You will need to carry a permit to cross indiginous land. Available ar Leonora. (It's only courtesy)

You will see signs asking you to LOCK UP any PETROL containers you are carrying!

Depending on what you are driving, it would be an advantage to understand dirt road driving, and tyre pressures for unmade roads.

It really is a wonderful driving experience. If you haven't driven gravel roads before, there is no drama involved.

I have a 1991 Mazda T3500 m/home, and carry the minium of essential spares, plus ten extra litres of diesel.

I also take minimum clothing etc with me, so as to keep vehicle weight down.

Booking ahead for a caravan site in Alice Springs is essential. The whole town is "chokkas" in winter. Plus, don't think that central Oz is warm in winter. As my mum used to say. "It's as cold as a witchs tit"! If mums say it, it's all right.

So, if you are contemplating the trip, maybe there can be a chat session arranged with other GN.

Regards.

PS. Please do not produce your camera when stopping at an indiginous community.

We're currently planning a trip to Alice Spings from Perth through Laverton and Uluru in early April. Over the first week or so (of April) there will likely be up to 10 car/caravan combos from our group doing the same trip (for a Geocaching event). Later in April we're planning the remainder of the Great Central Road through to Boulia and Winton, before heading towards FNQ.

Oh yes of course. Thanks Jules. Was thinking there must have been something more recent.
