Saw the oncologist today & he informed me that he has decided that I am to have NO more chemo. This is because of my wonky heart. He said he thought I had done well to have managed to have 20 doses. So now I have to have some scans & visit oncologist for checks every 3 months for the next year. Also now maybe I will grow back some eye lashes. I willnot miss the chemo. Alice
Got eye brows Jules.'s It's the eye lashes that have disappeared. I was being treated with monthly eye injection for macular degeneration by a private eye specialist but covered by Qld health. Contract has run out so my next appointment is at Royal Brisbane Womens hospital on 31/10. bit inconvenient. Will go down by train & stay a few days with friends who will take me to hospital. Then back to Bundaberg by train on 1/11just in time for weekly blood test (required because heart people have put me on Warfarin). Cheers Alice
Warfarin - horrid stuff - my late husband was on it after his second heart attack for three months. We travelled to QLD in just the car, and stayed at motels. Went for a walk in a rainforest on the NSW coast somewhere the afternoon before checking in - getting back to the car, we found a leech attached to my upper leg - I brushed it off, and thought in went out the door.
When we got to the motel, hubby took his left shoe and sock off, and then the right - which was soaked in blood, his sneaker was full of blood as well. Luckily there was a hair dryer in the room - I washed the sock and shoe - didn't worry too much about the sock but dried the shoe with the hairdryer.
That was three hours after we had gone for the walk, and it was still pumping blood. We wrapped it up, and elevated his foot, eventually stopped.

Probably for the best Alice. Your heart needs to be taken care off. See you over the weekend.
My son Stephen has been on Warfarin for many years. He's 44.and probably wouldn't be alive today without it.
Hi Marj I took Warfarin 20 years ago for over 12 months when I had a massive DVT. Had no problems with it. We will be here at the Bundaberg Gliding Club just south of Bundy, home all weekend. Turn off is close to a high tower for bush fire watching. Alice
