Jancol we now own our own phone and have been with Telstra for some years ,while the phone was part of the deal it was $100 a month the calls were limited and we only had 4gb of data.
Now wifey hammered out a deal with the Telstra call centre 75 dollars a month unlimited calls and 11gb of data, the key to it was were good customers, we own the phone and my wife is a hard negotiator believe me I know
dont go to Telstra shops high wages big rents crappy deals, call centres there paid like battery hens and deal hard you will be pleasantly surprised...
Why is it that everyone is paranoid about phone communication.Just get out there ,enjoy the wide world and communicate when you are able.Calls, data and the rest of it are crap.Think of yourselves for a change.Get out there and do it and enjoy it.

Like my mate Dougwe we are on Telstra. I have just bought a 25Gig deal for $105 a month, and it works well.
I have discovered Telstra has the BEST coverage but are expensive. Personally I have had nothing but trouble with Optus and will not go near them (thats just personal experience) I wouldnt touch them with a barge pole.
Cheers

The best deal I have been able to find is the Aldi plan and there are a number from which you can choose depending on your requirement.
Aldi use the Telstra network and where appropriate you have access to the 4 g network.
I pay $35 per month which gives unlimited calls to land line or mobile any where in Australia and 2 gig of data with extra data at $10 per gig.
We have travelled extensivly in oz and not had anyproblems.
The $35 pack gives 6 gig of data, (with rollover of unused data) unlimited calls and text these days. As mentioned uses telstra 4g. Even inludes some overseas calls. Lesley and myself r on that plan.
https://www.aldimobile.com.au/plans/value-packs/ I have even dropped the land line.
Hi. I've travelled reasonably extensively over the last few years. I've been from qld as far south/west as Adelaide/port Augusta up to Broome, Darwin, sw in the gulf, kuramba, cooktown and all the roads you need to get there. I have a Telstra USB for my computer and was connected to Optus for my mobile and iPad. I can honestly say there where times when I had no connection at all, but then I may have a Telstra connection and no Optus but the opposite also occurred where I had Optus and no Telstra. In fairness I now am with Telstra because of plans but really did not experience too much difference. My suggestion is go with one of the cheaper carriers with Optus
Cheers

Yes, "whats app" is popular but the other person needs to also have it on the ph.
We used it to ph home from china by using the local free hotel hotspots. Works a treat.
