I have asked half a dozen people and friends that have been to Pain Management Specialists, if their pain was reduced? Every one said NO not really. On my one off experience I got exactly nothing from him, in fact he didn't seem to care about my pain and only wanted to stop my Pain Medication. I wait with baited breath, for your thoughts.
I participated in a Pain Management Program of half a dozen participants approx 6 years ago. I had been to pain specialists, tried all the opiates and opiate patches. Nothing worked. The Pain Management Program was recomended and Workcover agreed to pay, approx. $3k.
The program was built around physical fitness, mental attitude, and relaxation. A selection of items like "pickup" sticks etc being available. The whole idea was to manage your everyday activities to achieve an acceptable lifestyle. I did find the programe well worth the time, 3 X 3 hour hour sessions per week, some morning and some afternoons for approx 8 weeks. I really need a refresher as I have slowly let a lot of what I learnt slip.
Yes Paul I agree, there are horses for courses and you obviously had a good experience. In my case the pain Specialists letter to my GP more or less insinuated that I was putting it on. I hope that some others can comment and give us an overall view.

Cheers mate.
The condecending mental attitude guy was almost saying that a lot of it was in our minds!! After a few sessions I placed my back xray on the dest in front of him and said, this is fact!! All participants cheered!!! He is correct to a small degree.
I'm one of those people who feel that if I give my body time to heal itself, it will eventually do that, unless I have irreparably broken something and the only way to get up and mobile again is to submit to an operation.
I had RSI (work related) in both arms for 8.5 years of pain - then they came right. I had Tinnitus in both ears, I cleaned my ears with cotton buds and after 20 years, my hearing returned and I don't have Tinnitus any more. I have Eczema on the backs of my hands and feet - I used to use Vaseline - I now use a cream provided by my doctor, I've had it for 18 years or so, under control but not gone away yet. I have Diabetes Type 2 these past 15 years. Had it under control for 15 years, then if snuck up on me again and I was looking at an Insulin injection, however by diet alone, back to less than 8 - tough diet, eggs, meat, vegetables, fruit - no bread, potatoes, sweet potatoes and I drink only water - doctor talking about me dropping off Diamicron tablets !! wow!! - I'm 70 and retired. I had a ruptured disk in my back about 25 years ago - had an op for that and walked away pain free - but that was sheer luck.
