Endoscope - cheap and it works!

G'Day,   Son gave me an endoscope at Xmas as a bit of a backslap as I'd earlier in the year had a endoscoptomy....said I could D.I.Y. in the future!, anyway he told me it came from Ebay and gave me the link (below).

We both thought it would be a bit of a toy considering the price ($8.98 delivered) but amazingly it actually works - has a row of led's around the lens which is on the end of a 1.5m cable and is about 6mm/1/4" in diameter. Will only work on Android devices (I use a Tab A) Fixed focus of about 3" and the led's are adjustable. So we played with it - down the throat, check bald spot on head, check lump behind ear, explore outer ear, stick down ant nest etc etc. Then out to the car trying to look behind covers etc. Can use in total darkness or full light.   Just before I started this thread I used it to verify that a wall clock was mounted correctly to the wall hook - saved using a mirror plus when you are over 70 you don't own mirrors.

Gives a very sharp picture if you can hold it still and the focus is correct....embarassingly sharp!!! - never knew the outer ear had so many blood vessels. The program to run it allows you to record videos or stills. We changed programs and run one called "camerafi".

All in all I reckon it's good toy and one which many GN's could use not just for fun but as an actual device to allow you to see around corners.

EDIT....checked the link and seems it's $14.49 for one only but still cheap....cheaper for more

Good Luck.

Ive got a similar one but use it with a laptop, brilliant for looking inside engines & up under the dashboard.

Just thought being an "Endoscope" shouldn't this be in the health & wellbeing section?    ....... couldn't resist!.

Have a similiar one for inspecting my fish tank but gave the daughter the windows laptop so it is in the cupboard now. Worked well giving a clear picture of the fish and condition of the floor of the tank.

Thanks for that info hako

I shall have to try and remember to get one when I return to home base

Nothing like a new toy, to keep a young (at heart) boy amused

Hi Hako,
I'm on the Ford Territory forum, do you think this would work to view the rear diff bush, its on gas and the tank clearance won't let me get anything in to have a look.
Thanks.

Checked it on mine but I have no LPG tank.....the view may be upside down or sideways however so you need to mentally correct it.  Before I've used a mirror on a flexible arm (SuperCheap type) to check it.  You can get a rough idea of it's condition also by placing a jack under the diff and see if it moves a lot...should move just a bit.

Could also use to check diff oil level which I've used a mirror for before.

Being able to record with the endoscope should allow you to put the camera into the general area of what you want to see and move it about....somewhere on the recording should be a pic of what you are looking at.

Good Luck.

ps...will stick a note on the Territory forum.
