This one is going to sound silly at first, but check the condition of the fan belt. The added load of charging the caravan battery as well as the start battery might be enough to actually stall the alternator allowing the belt to slip over the pulley without actually turning it as fast as it should be spinning, the result is the fault light showing the alternator is not charging as it should.
