Another satellite query

Gidday

My satellite system has ceased to operate. Oyster auto dish and altechUEC DSR4639. At first it was saying LNB error - that's not occurring any more.....it'll say signal found.....do all the right things except load the bouquets, then it crashes and goes to start up again.

Trouble is oyster guy saying it's decoder box....decoder people saying it's the sat dish.

Anyone have any clues where to start to decipher which one it is before I potentially send decoder away if it's not that? I'm in the middle of bum%^# as usual, and apparently the two nearest mobs that could check it out are at least 1500klm away from me and both in directions I wasnt heading......

times like this I hate travelling lol. 42 odd degrees....no freaking Telstra service to speak of to try get help.....a pub across the road I can't even drink from!!!!!

LOL. Trying to count my blessings. smilebiggrin

Any clues appreciated.

Check both ends of both ends of cable, if ok probably the box Dish just a reflector to lnb. And that either converts or not. Never seen an intermttent LNB. Though if alignment on edge of tune it could be iffy.

easy to connect an alinement meter direct to the lnb and check dish/lnb, then connect meter to cable where it goes into decoder, if it checks ok there its the decoder
cheers

I have had this happen with a UEC decoder and what I found was the box needed a software update.

What I did to resolve the issue was connect up the box to a dish and correctly aligned it and left the box on standby for 24 hours. It did come good after that.

worth trying though.

Hope that helps

From your description I'm leaning towards a problem with the receiver. I also have a DSR4639 which will sometimes fail to record a program at the set time or randomly reboot for no apparent reason. I suggest you beg or borrow an alignment tool to at least prove (or otherwise) that the dish is pointing correctly and the LNB is working.

Hi all.....

Thanks for all your replies. Yes joe....mine has done that over the years too.

Anyways.....I've been absent because I've been running back and forth trying to sort this out. Long story short, lucky I'd landed in a fabulous town......the publican lent me his decoder box and when I plugged it all in and fired it all up....no dramas......so the box it's now on it's way back for repair/replacement.

Thanks again for your hints to help me work it out.

Cheers all
