I have a 87 lwb coaster, hb30, I removed the air con compressor so needed new belts, I used a cloth tape measure to get a circumference for new belts. Local vee belt supplier had what I needed, B section belts. There is an amount of adjustment on the tension idler for any discrepancy as new belts will be slightly smaller than old ones of the same size due to stretch.

 Hi Betty , smile

Take a tip from a mechanic, about spare parts. Take the old ones off, get some new ones at an engineering supplier to match yours. THEN put the new ones on the bus and keep the old ones for spares. That way you will have good ones for the next 10+ years and will most likely never need to change them. biggrin

Having good new spares in the boot till they age is not a good method of being prepared. hmm OR buy two sets !

If having problems.
Engineering suppliers normally have "adjustable" belts for machinery.
Usually leather.

Or just take to spare parts shop.
They normally have racks of variable size\profile belts.
Measure dia and profile. then get a couple around your length or slightly shorter.

One will fit. Get 2 of and Return others.

Seeing as no one that has your vehicle has answered. cry That motor was the same as, or very similar to the motors in the Toyota Landcruisers of the same age. So I would expect the belts to be readily available. Ask at a place which services older Landcruisers if you cannot find them anywhere else. But Supercheap, Repco, Bursons, Auto one etc have listings of belts fitted on most vehicles going back a long way. Always helpful staff if you ask nicely and smile wink

Forget Macka's suggestion of multi fit "adjustable" leather belts. I would not even consider that a sensible suggestion.

Hi Jahn, I have the same vehicle and answered, see above, but maybe not a very helpful answer!

BettyB any auto parts supplier such as Repco, Bursons, Autopro etc. can look up the belt numbers in their catalogs and supply the required belts. You don't need to go to a dealer.

I had MAJOR problems finding any part numbers for my Coaster... 'cause it's a Japanese Import (Australian VIN numbers seem to be useless 'cause it wasn't manufactured in Oz)

Nothing in the Australian Toyota parts database made any sense (1HD-TD [Turbo Deisel] engine wasn't used in 1997 in Australia... apparently only a 1HZ [non-Turbo])

Here is a Website I found that has the Japanese (& European) Engine details http://japan-parts.eu/toyota/jp

Enjoy finding your Part numbers

PS

As an aside - my correct Part Number Aircon Vee Belts are too long & can't be tensioned enough (they squeak after a few 100 k's & then eventually 1 breaks & the other falls off!!!).

I'm trying to install 10mm shorter belts, but have wrecked the adjuster screw head trying to loosen the tensioner pulley enough (didn't loosen the pulley screw) ;-(

If they are vee belts most bearing service shops carry a very wide range, and often a lot cheaper than automotive stores.

Take the old one with you . Repco have KFI if it isnt Holden !! Maybe cable tie the spare belt behind pulley ? If tricky to get to . Big thing is to keep correct belt tension ..
