I sprayed our previous caravan Winegard with WD40 but we didn't have tv so I don't know if it did any harm to it as I read in a mag you should lubicate your winegard once a year.
With our second hand new one it has a winegard and a tv, I was thinking just the other night after Marilyn spent about a hour trying to tune it in and failed to get New Tricks at Bendamere maybe the winegard needs a service, I am carrying a can of silican spray now to find a tall tree to climb to get to the roof of the caravan.
Thanks for that link Dunmoving, I am sure that this information will help others, in the future
In 2014 when I purchased my present second hand vehicle, the Winegard antenna was stuck solid, and the previous owner had broken the handle trying to raise it At that time I could not find any info on how to dismantle it
I done it the hard way, by removing everything from the ceiling, removing the bolts from the roof, and pulling the complete unit off the vehicle
When I had it on my bench, I then saw how easily it comes apart
Viewing it from a ladder, I was expecting it to have circlips, or other fasteners, holding the mechanism inside the housing
I suppose that this is a case of easy when you know how
Mine was hard & jerky to wind up so I did the suggested mtce.
Good as new.
I suppose that I was slack in not sharing but in my defense I think that I got the tip from a previous post.
Thanks for the heads up Dunmoving.
Going off topic as usual ..
Talking about Van Mtce ... Just ordered a replacement for a 20yo vent lid that cracked & leaked on the last trip. Good article on identifying vents type on Caravanplus site. Easy job to replace. Next re-caulk roof. Not so easy.
Thank John, I'll check mine before we leave Toowoomba after Easter.
I see there's no rain at home yet & the Ross Dam is still at 18% full. This year could be very interesting if there is no more rain!
The council didn't realise that they had a problem until too late & it has cost them big bucks to pump from the Burdekin, the State Govt (with their Green mates - no more dams) isn't interested even though the Feds have dished out some funds toward doing something about it!
PS - Radar - New Tricks is "Old Tricks" - replays! Still a good show.

If you don't get it done today, there's always tomorrow!
Guys, If you read the wine guard antenna maintenance section in the manufacturers booklet it says not to use WD40 as it damages the gears, use a silicon spray and then wind the antenna up and down 3-4 times after spraying.
