We have just developed a water leak at the mains connection on outside of van. We filled both tanks then headed off-road. When we turned on 12 v pump l noticed the outside connection point for the hose had a steady trickle coming from it , no hose attached. The pump and all taps are working but with pump switched on it leaks. Any ideas as to what the cause is and what needs to be fixed. TIA
The non return valve is there to stop the water in your caravan plumbing system from running back out, like an automatic tap
Generally made of bass, replacement cost sub $20 from plumbers suppliers.
Can be taken apart and cleaned but pending on age whether you will have success.
On our 2012 caravan there was a bass pressure reducing value then a bit further along from that was a John Guest black plastic non return valve that gave me some trouble, I no longer have that one and replaced it with a bass one @ $15 the reason being so I could take it apart an clean it along with availability. Did this the on the last tour in April.
As good as John Guest fitting are sometimes they are very hard to get when you are on the road, I do carry a couple of spares but never seems the right ones. Mind you I have helped a couple of people out with my spares.
Top photo is a bass non return valve
The other is a pressure reducing value.
I don't have a photo of a john guest non return valve.
Hope that's the above was your issue, the pressure limiting valve on our van also prevents backflow and is located right up near the pump so although the leak is from the filling point the problem may be back at the pump.
Warning to Jayco owners, we had a watch out on our Jayco last week second time for the same fault... If you have a Jayco with a toilet check the plastic hose between the water line and the feed to the toilet flush, its located very close to the cassette and is only secured by a hose clamp. On mains pressure at a van park we came home to find half the park flooded. Now tightened again with a spanner not a screwdriver hope it doesn't come off for a 3rd time when we are running from tanks alone somewhere.

Go to - Design your RV or Caravan plumbing system - Scroll down to near the bottom and you will see a diagram of what Radar is describing. There is also descriptions of the components there as well if you have not encountered these items before.

Driving OFF-ROAD is illegal you must stick to unsealed roads & existing tracks. Driving OFF-ROAD causes a lot of damage to the environment, vegetation etc.

I think they mean driving off the blacktop. My Jayco Outback is sold to be "Off Road" however Jaco's definition of warranty stops if you get off a well formed gravel road and onto a fire trail and such.
I think the term "Off Road" is now deemed to be anything without curbs and gutters, my cousin is a drover and he takes his old van along the stock routes behind the cattle this is really off road but there are still tracks along the old stock routes that have been seeing usage for longer than cars were in existence.

It would be nice to know how you got on and if any of the information worked or we wasited your time with misunderstanding your problem.
Hi radar, sorry mate haven't had reception for a few days. Hasn't been fixed yet as not been into a town to get sorted but will let you know the outcome. And yes DD I mean existing tracks and unsealed roads . Thanks for the replies everyone
Well I took your advice and removed the fitting , pulled it apart and gave it a good clean out . Put back together and tested it out and working as it should, no more leaks. Thanks for the replies, it's great to be able to ask for advice from experienced vanners , much appreciated guys.
