A quick question for those whom have a px ranger , and perhaps a BP50( not sure if they have sway control )

In the ranger there is an ESP switch , Electronic Stability Control ( anti trailer sway mechanism) .

I haven't used it towing the van as we have ESC on our van , has anyone that uses it have any experiences where they use it and its effectiveness to correct trailer sway .

Does your owners manual say that the tugs esc also controls your trailer/caravan?

ESC means, as you say, Electronic Stability Control. They mean it for the vehicle, not for the towed vehicle. The idea is that if you overcook a corner and the car starts to skid, ESC will brake an appropriate wheel(s) to try to correct the skid. IF you are towing, ESC should still work, although it may be confused by what is swinging around behind the vehicle. I doubt that it would be of much use in correcting caravan sway, and in fact may be a hindrance by braking or at least limiting the power you can use to pull the van out of a swaying situation.

If you are experiencing trailer sway, maybe find the cause of that it may be as simple as tow ball down force, to much or too little,

Yeah I had seen that video clip before I posted the query .

Wanted to find out if anyone had actual experience in with using it while towing a van .

Our van doesn't get any sway up on its own , but in the advent of a semi coming from behind it can buffet the van a bit as its 25' and the centre for inertia is a fair way from both ends.

I'm mindful not to have much weight on the back of the van or on the drawbar as it can increase the sway once it starts thru inertia .

I think youll find the tug supplies a voltage feed to power the vans esc, the ecu on the van will do the rest.

Not so much anything to do with ESC. But....


Little tip for people JUST buying longer vans.

Rear set suspensions. ARE a lot more stable when towing.
than the Centre set units\vans.

A much longer triangle from towball to wheel centre's.
Same as a Semi.
= much less "arse swing".

Single and dual axles. both the same.
