Hi all, This is to answer a question I received on another forum. I have installed 1020 w of Solar panels. These consist of 1 x 120 w [which I had] and 15 x 60 w panels, these will allow me to still have wattage if some of the panels are in partial shade. 400 Ah Lithium Batteries. I had a 2000 w Inverter. These were installed in Mannum SA by T1 Lithium. I had a 2400 w jug and it would not work [so I bought a 750 w smaller Jug]. I also bought a new toaster 740 w and a coffee m/c. The batteries run any of these [including a microwave and a Dometic w/m] on their own. I have not tried multi operation as I don't need it. It works on my HW system but I leave that on gas. We did test it on the A/C and it worked, but again I'm happy to use fans. Everything else I have is 12V. I am investigating the prospect of getting a household cassette inverter a/c, that part is OK, but I have to search for the outside unit that will fit in the space I want it in. I will not discus cost as each installation is different so contact the installer in Mannum.

Ruff'e'nuff numbers to start the conversation:
Solar 15x60W flexibles $2000 to $3500
Lithium 400Ah $3000
Inverter 2000W $500 to $3000
Controller, SSRs, monitoring, system protection, cabling, mounts, etc $1000 to $3000
Installation $
There's a lot of variables...
Cheers,
Steve

Wonder if anyone has used elect car batteries ? The complete cell.
Hi Aus-Kiwi
On another forum I go on there are people who have used electric car batteries they import from USA mostly out of written-off cars. The price can be good but not cheap.
However the complete batteries are configured for many smaller AHr at very high voltage, usually several hundred. So in the danger zone !! Hence to use it for camping or home use the cells must be separated into smaller units. Because of the integrated design of the batteries this may not be as easy as it sounds. Do-able but perhaps not for the person with limited technical experience.
Some older design electric car batteries are not lithium either, but Ni-Cad. EG Prius.

Yes not sure if the wiring or bonding between each cell (s) can be changed to keep voltage lower ? They seem to be very compact, value for money .
Can't just use the battery pack even if you figure out how to reconfigure it to the lower voltage. You also need the BMS and battery cooling system and be prepared for a tad of excitement in your life as these are not the ultra safe LiFeP04 chemistry but rather one of those chemistries that go bang if you got the BMS wrong.
To each their own, some want to live comfortably and remember this is Pet-el's home not a holiday rig. Keep in mind this vehicle is now set up to 100% freedom camp so no caravan park costs and discount the electricity, rates, water rates etc you pay for your bricks and mortar house from the conversion cost and I recon you'll find he is way out in front by comparison even after the first 12 mths or so. These set ups come with full support back up and a 3 yr renewable guarantee, something you won't get with any lead acid battery set up, even crystal lead and have all the benefits of lithium batteries.
One has to wonder about people who keep doing the same thing and getting the same result yet think they know better than someone who steps beyond the 19th century limited knowledge barrier and takes on 21st century technology, yet these same people are using a computer at the moment that was even dreamed of technology when lead acid battery ruled the world These same people are happy to put a suspect chemistry lithium battery to their ear or sit one in their lap without a second thought, should these people be using lead acid batteries still?
