When I brought the tug, I wanted a year at least within range of the supplier to make sure warranty problems were handled correctly. During that time, I had a leaking main seal, not bad, but leaking, and of course it was replaced. After my last service it was noted that the seal was leaking again, so I chased it up. Yes the seal would be replaced again under warranty.
Nooooooo I'm getting a new motor, not leaking from the seal, but from the casting. A bit of a shock, the motor was going beautifully. Now I don't have wheels.
That is good news mate it would safe you an bucket full of money in an few years
How long before you get your tug back
or do you have to wait for the engine to come in first ??
Hopefully I get the vehicle back by the end of next week, they said most parts available locally. But not having wheels is a bit of a worry with the grocery shopping, however they managed in the old days, we should be able to manage it now. The vehicle supplier has applied to get us a loan car for the period, should fid out about that tomorrow.
My main worry after that will be running the motor in, I have a RV rally in a couple of weeks time.
Motors are run in on the first 500 Kls .l Let's face it !! It's the rings that are the only part that's metal to metal . Us a non friction modified oil ir use run in oil . I like to change at 500 klrs or so then 5000klrs then better synthetic or friction modified oils if you want . Early oil change is due to honed bore to bed in rings . The iron bits end up in oil . Flushing this out with oil change is best !! Don't baby it too much . Maybe a drive around the block a few times before towing ?

Decades ago. B4 Valiant Cars Closed down. I lived in Adelaide Down South. Drove Cranes.
Often took a mobile into Valiant Engine plant at Lonsdale. for maint, mainly.
BUT. Every 6ish months I'd go there. to load or unload several semi's. FULL of engine block castings.
Going to be welded up (Bad "Leaky" Castings). OR bringing them back.
To be installed into the NEW cars they were rolling off the lines. WELL. They WERE new castings. Weren't they??. New cars.
OH. Truckies told me they did same at HOLDEN Factory too.

This was true. Plus Daughters then boyfriend worked in Engine development plant down town. Some of the story's he came home with, to keep them running.
But. I did get a lovely little Factory rally car through him when they closed the team. LESS the Japanese, head factory engine unning gear of course.
But a 1600cc rear drums car goes quite well on a factory blueprinted 2 ltr with 6spd and 4 wh discs under it.
Hardest thing with that car. (we did forest rally's mainly) was bringing it out of corners on 4 wheels. Bloody thing was like a motorbike, It's responses.
Several times (in beginning). I peeled the outside bead of front offside tyre clean off it's rim getting through some soft corners. Never rolled it once though but close a coupla times.
They were the days hey.
Same as my elderly (in 50's). 20\50km Night horse cross country races on strange property's.
NO pre rides and not much in way of Google Earth to cheat with either. I had the BEST. Side stepping 16.1 hand, Appy, in the world.
Flat out in strange scrub. He'd side step back under me as he bolted along. To keep me from falling out of saddle. Phenomenal horse.
It's a shame we live longer than some animals. Isn't it.
Ah well. Oh. Engine castings.

Shaft alignment etc. BUT Yep. Casting will do.

If you going to tow with it. and it's diesel.
Go for 1000km trip. and find some hills.
Load it up as it warms up.
Beds everything in better for future.
I drove my Last Patrol Melb to Adel then coupla days round Adel hills. Then back againover 5 ish days
Then 6.5mtr van Melb to Yeppoon. one hit.
Never missed a beat and very economical for next 14 yrs or so.

Part of the original warranty was no towing for a period of Km's, and yes I intend to find some hills, glazing bores we've covered that subject!
I really don't quite know what the problem is, being very deaf, I tend to miss 50% of the conversation, but when we took the car in for its repair, the service advisor we spoke to had a completely different approach to us that when I called in the week previously to book it in, telling me they may need the car longer etc, etc, anyway has caught us a bit with household supplies and so on, I haven't heard back about a loan car so I'm guessing that's not been approved by the supplier of the vehicle. But its almost as though its a known problem, or they did some thinking about it, or a bulletin has just come out, I don't know, but a whole new engine is pretty drastic, especially as the original was going so well.
The funny thing with all this is, I remember the oil seal note on my service sheet after last service, and wondered if it was just a reference to the previous oil seal change. However I crawled under the vehicle to look at the transmission oil cooling system, and then noticed the oil leak, promptly having another look at what was written in the service sheet and then off to the dealer.
So if I hadn't posted that thread on trans cooling, I may never have followed this up.
Now that's a long one, not quite up to mackas, but I'm learning!
Lol but not funny .. I hope the guys doing the work are not learning also ?? Seems things are about money more than service these days ! Or are we being grumpy old C's ., Children lol .
Some years ago had some trouble with supposed rear crank seals leaking on Falcons. Turned out not to be the seal, but leaking along side the seal due to no sealer on main bearing cap. Was found by pressurising the crankcase to 5psi & using soapy water to find the actual leak. Was using an adjustable low pressure reg to pressurise the crankcase.

Could be the same thing. Anyway they are giving me a new ute to use in the meantime all approved by Mazda, you couldn't ask for a better service. Thank God I'm not way up north somewhere with the problem.
They've given me a near new 4 door BT50 to run around in, not much different actually, tidied up the radio area, and put a screen in. different grill, the rest is the same. I wonder why the manufacturers of utes can't get it into their heads we need to add other stuff, so build the panels to except them. I don't like the GPS in the center console, you have to move your eyes too far off from watching the road, prefer the GPS on top of the console. Anyway maybe I'll have a car back this week, who knows.
The guy at Mazda didn't think so as long as I had their job sheet specifying the engine change and new serial number, but on that note, I will toddle along to Motor Vehicle Registration just to be on the safe side. Scan gauge now reading Auto gear box oil temp, Engine coolant temp. and KPH. Dunno what the forth read out should be.
