Caravan Mover for Tandem Axle

We had a Purple line Caravan Mover (4 motors) fitted to the caravan but were a bit disappointed in its performance. Basically where a single axle caravan can turn on its own axis this is not possible with a tandem axle van.

However the biggest problem was the jockey wheel digging in so I designed a new version that seems to work very well.

Though I would share this with other caravan users.

Basically took a 250 mm dia Jockey wheel (hard rubber) and added two outrigger wheels (260 mm dia Softer but NOT inflatable) $35 ea from Bunnings with a new 5/8th Bolt through the whole lot.

The solid wheel takes the load when stationary and you need to level out and the other wheels cover the ground easily and spread the load.

Hope this helps anyone that has had similar problems.

Cheers

I use an "Aussie Mover" with my single axle van, but when visiting my brother in law, he has a tandem and use one to pull/turn his van out of his carport. To my surprise it works, but not in the length of the van! A lot cheaper than the Purple Line!

I have Purple Line movers and think they are great, using a small wheel is no good my van is Jayco Heritage tandem wheels and with an 8" solid jockey wheel it works great.

If I am on sandy or soft soil I have a piece checker plate 300x600mm and place this in front of the jockey wheel and it works fine.

Love it when you go into caravan park and all the permanent are watching thinking he will not get that in there, unhitch van engage movers and remote control it in to position and that takes the smile of their faces.

I like Megafishaholic wheel and am thinking of modifying mine ...norm

Hi Norweb

Great to hear youre happy with the purpleline movers on a dual axle.  Ive got a Jayco 24.75 and travel solo so am toying with the idea of the movers but have been hesitant based on concern about how they would manage the van with 3100 tare.

I like the jockey wheel setup from megafishaholic too!
