Winter Diesel

Just a query for those who know. I fill  my Diesel tanks in Qld which obviously does not need winter diesel. Do I need an additive added if I still have the Qld diesel in my tanks when in the winter areas.

I don't want my diesel waxing up.

How many tanks of fuel do you need to get to the snow? Pace your fuel so when you get there you need to refill. When you get there wait until you get up into where they will have winter fuel and give the vehicle a good fuel up there. Then do a few kilometres to work the new fuel into the system.

We have lived in the Nations Capital for 30 years until 2014.

I can recall with our Nissan Navara having it serviced by Berrima Diesel at Berrima.

The "OLd Fellow" for those who know the proprietors of Berrima Diesel asked me the question> "Do I use winter diesel or is it available in ACT".

I did'nt know so on my return I checked with a Supervisor at my regular Caltex Servol. He advised me that they utilize winter diesel in the ACT but do not advise customers and do not really make it known.

However, when passing through Cooma they have clear signs at the petrol stations saying Winter diesel fuel available.

Now you know.

Thanks to all.
I'll fill up the tanks ASAP and I suppose it will equalise the Qld Fuel.

I will just throw another furphy at you as well.

A lot of owners of "common rail diesels" in the so called winter areas also DO NO let their fuel tanks get below 1/2 full or 1/2 empty. This is to minimise condensation build up especially if you vehicle is not under cover at night.

Cheers

JohnR yeah nah that's a furphy alright ,
my old 25 year old patrol has suffered from frozen fuel here in the northern mallee on frosty mornings ( along with lots of other makes ) even when in the shed over night full 1/2 or 1/4 makes no difference so it dosnt have to be a common rail to have that problem , just cold enough to freeze the fuel .

Canberra, Cooma and those places have winter diesel as standard have for donkeys years, more problems with radiators in the old jiggers than fuel, windscreen washers botlles breaking into litle bits.
