Hi everyone - great site: stumbled upon it accidentally and so glad we did. Loving reading all the feedback from other members.
We are recently retirked and about to set off for some longer trips. Have done a lot of shorter (7-10 day) camping trips over the years, mostly in WA, and now looking towards the east. We have started 'small' , towing an AVan trailer which is really good for a quick set-up. Would esp love to hear from other A-Vanners, esp for longer trip advice. Considering SA to start with, then onwards & upwards.
G'day TJS and welcome to the forum. Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit.
Must have got up early today to beat Dougwe - but he'll be along soon I'm sure! He was a long time A-Vanner but upgraded a while back.
And it's welcome from s two 2 TJS
not everyone stumbles and then decides it was a good thing to have done , now I do hope you have been very carefull driving around over there in the west as DOUGWE has some mighty brave braves over there and they like peace and quiet as they have to keep
" The Twins " out of sight. Or he gets into trouble and the " Cheif of Cheer " will have to go west n sort it out .
Over here over there ,
remember to take your chair .
When the sun sets we like to wets ,
our throat upon that chair .
Woody

Thanks for my first message! Are you A Vanners? Looking forward to hearing from Dougwe too.
Still finding my way around the site and not yet seen the Who Is This etc but plenty onsite to look at
Here I tis. I have been busy sociallising so just got back.
Welcome to the gang TJS, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Yes I was a happy camper in my Avan Sportliner for a few years, had many a good camp and happy hour and I tell you that for free. I remember the first time I free camped, lost power, found out I had no way of charging battery so got the dreaded gene out from 4pm to 8.00pm each day to survive for one month with great friends. I got back home and fully rewired the Avan and got a 120w Solar Panel and hooked that up so gene stayed in the back of the then tug. She now stays in the back of the Collie just incase needed for the aircon only. I keep her chained up as well just incse she goes walkabout.
In 2014 I decided instead of being a partime GN away for 8 out of 12 months I would sell up the four walls, update the Tug and got the aluminium teepee in my signature and go full time GN. I love it all and enjoy the playground. I have no problem travelling around or staying put for a while. I am currently in Townsville enjoying the tropical warmer weather but will start to move south to VIC when I get itchy feathers, um feet.
Oh! It's easy to get confused by Woody.
On ya Woody mate.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Thanks for your welcome email - very welcomin. Am still having a fair few problems understanding how to get around the site , but I will get there eventually! Thanks for advice to get some bumper stickers - will do that TJS.
Belated thank you for the welcome email a couple of weeks back. Had to go away suddenly but now trying to pick up again and start to arrange the big trip. Still having some problems negotiating around the website but am getting there!
Will be following the site more regularly from now TJS
A belated thank you for your welcome email a couple of weeks back. Had to go away suddenly but am back on site now and hopefully will be looking in a bit more often now, and continuing to plan a first big trip. Hope you are still enjoying Townsville; is way too cold & wet still in sunny Perth.
Sorry to hear you left the A Van behind, but you are probably still the ones to ask.
Do you think an AVan would make the Outback Way trip across country from Wiluna to Winton? Or is that road just too rough for it?
Anyway thanks again for being in touch. Hope we will bump into you along the way one day TJS
