After blowing out two rear tyres in 6 months Im looking at fitting a Tyre Pressure Monitor. Have any of our members have one fitted and can they give me an idea of the best type to purchase. I have Jayco Conquest on a Fiat Ducato base. Thanks in advance.

I have had Doran tyre pressure monitors on my eight tyres now for a number of years. They have been driven in all conditions and not one of them as failed me. Can highly recommend them.

We use the Tyre dog sensors on the Trailer behind the motorhome (4.5T Triaxle) and they have performed exceptionally well, shows tyre pressure and temp, alarms are great and paid for themselves when we had a bearing failure, batteries are easy enough to replace and no issues in over 3 years
Have just bought a second unit for the car and the camper trailer - a cheap investment when you consider the cost of replacing tyres just because of a leak etc...
I use the Inawise tyre pressure maintenance system. I chose it initially because the sensors fit inside the tyre and I had heard horror stories of external ones being damaged or destroyed in rough country.
The system is fitted to the vehicle (six tyres) and the van (five tyres) and has performed flawlessly. It copes with van off or van on and various tyre pressures depending on road condition or off-road excursions. It also copes with tyre rotation, provided you plan which tyre is going to go where.
I have found in practice that the position of the monitor is not as critical as I first thought. I tend to rely on audible warnings to tell me to pull over and see what's going on in the monitor, not that it has happened very frequently.
I'm very happy with the system. No connection with the manufacturer or retailers, just a happy customer.
I actually tried finding some internal system originally and gave up, how long do the batteries last?
Agree with your comments regarding the possible damage off road with the valve cap style (the tyredog that I currently use) and actually replace mine with standard caps when we go seriously off road for that reason (generally have to let the tyres down considerably anyway)
I wanted to get the type that is held on with a band to the rim as I had heard some horror stories of the style that is built into the valve stem from damage changing tyres. Would be grateful to hear your experiences.
I have Safety Dave's on both Ute and Tvan , they do the job ok but I have had to replace a few , Safety Dave was very good and supplied new ones no questions asked the problem was on rough corrugated roads they would flog around on the rubber valve stems and hit the wheel cracking the plastic case , driving in the rain water got in and buggered em .
I suppose there is a chance the valve stem could also fail .
I have had 2 just stop sending a single , no visible damage Dave replaced those also no problems .
I have now replaced the valve stems with much shorter ones and fittted some rubber caps ( rubber chair leg stoppers ) I haven't damaged any on rutted 4WD tracks yet but it's a real possibility, I guess .

The batteries last five to seven years, which should be as long as you would keep the tyre, anyway. I understand the batteries can be replaced but I have not had to do so thus far.

Thanks every one for your replies. Much food for thought. Have just ordered safety Daves tyre pressure monitors. Fingers crossed at least I will now have a better idea as to what's happening to the tyres.

Saw Big Al (Allan Whiting) endorse these which he doesnt do lightly, so they must be a bit good... LOL
Can ya tell me do they have the Allen key lock as alot of others have , or how do they stay on .
I liked the big screen look too, and did ya ever have the thing work...??? as in a leak or high temp beep go off...???
Cos ya dont know if they work if ya never had a tyre problem me thinks...
