GPS getting sticky

I have noticed that my GPS is getting sticky allover the out side. It feels like as if  it is melting ,. I had the same problem with the first GO Pro camera, I had to scrape all the stuff off. Any idea how to stop this ? Cheers

Must be a cheap one??
Dump it. Plastic breaking down.

I've had Garmin road and Marine for over 30 yrs. Never had one go "sticky" yet.
and they live on dash of cars in Q'Land.

Got a pr of Remington hair shears though.
New\Unused in box in Wardrobe for 5 on 6 yrs.

Sticky as the other day.

In Bin.

Guys,

Download Maps.me onto your smart phone, works anywhere and you don't have to be on line to use it. I am in Oman at the moment and was driving around on isolated roads out in the mountains last weekend worked fine just as good as any Navman or Garmin and best of all it's free.

cheers

BB

4 1\4 in Phone screen. 6in Garmin.

Think "I'll" stick with what I got.

We only use phones as phones, Emergency+, and nearest tuts.

It rings. I answer it.
Usually it just sits in car and drains it's battery.
I actually Charge it when I remember.

I'm not antisocial.

I haven't had the issue but then I don't leave my GPS on the windscreen either unless I'm using it.
I'm afraid, I've seen what can happen when the batteries explode due to them being cooked in the sun.

And like macka, I'm on a cheap plan with Telstra where my phone is a phone (unless there is trusted WiFi). Yes it would be nice to have a portable computer in my pocket - that may change next year when we get the NBN & I re-evaluate our comms & go entirely wireless.

No problem guys it suits my needs as I can be anywhere in the world open the Maps.me app and have a free GPS, I don't need wifi, a phone signal or even a SIM card in my phone. I know this because we are all using this app to find our way around the backwoods of places like Bahrain and Oman. Just buy an arm that holds your phone, stick it on your windscreen or dash and off you go, when you get out of your car stick the phone in your pocket and I have a portable GPS, camera or video all without paying a telco anything. The smart phone is obviously not a specialised GPS or camera although it will do both of those jobs to a pretty high standard. I haven't used my Navman or any other dedicated GPS device probably for the last 10 years as Sat Nav or the Apple/Android CarPlay system have always been built into any cars that I have bought during that time. The phone app is my preference but go ahead and use whatever you are the most comfortable with.

Most materials will eventually break down if exposed to the sun especially when it's being magnified through glass (look at what it does to your dash over time) I throw a small towel over my rear camera monitor to try and protect it when I'm parked somewhere especially if it's not in a shaded area and I remove it completely when not travelling. You could try using a product like those Amor all wipes but be very careful not to get it on the screen.

Nooooool Bill.
Good to hear from you hey.

That was the very first 320 model.
Van show special at $860. $1140 retail.

Got in car at show, Typed in Esk Van park,
Followed it right through central Brissie at 3 to 4.30 pm. NEVER missed a beat.
right to the gate.

I sold quite a few to people that week going on mine.

Son in North Caroline still using it with US maps.

This one of the latest BASIC models. that does 100 thing more than that old girl.
$160ish from memory.
Lots under the bridge since then too hey.

Finally sold the old Roadstar and now got a 535 Coromal Capri. Semi? O.R.Tandem full height.
NICE to tow too With a D-Max.
Patrol retired to dirt work on beaches and Shoalwater bay rocks.

Warren.
You live semi Rural. (IE Yeppoon 47 kms from Rocky Base).
Stick with your ADSl.

We had NBN for 6 months or so.

Figures LOOK good 21 to 23\ 4.5 on a 25\5 Max here. Plan.
Costs same as.

BUT
the ADSL at 7.2 to 8.4
was "Physically" a LOT. LOT faster and cleaner than this.
Happy at start. But it getting slower and slower by the day. Drop outs like you wouldn't believe.
Escalated to Techs coming out this week.
THIRD time in just over a month.

"Discrepancy in copper between Node and Modem". Yea.

IF THEY. replaced ALL cable from Node with Fibre.
Instant fix.
Guess what. They won't. Governmental rules.
Fibre to Node. Wire to house.

How bloody DUMB... is that then.
Something like driving UP hill with your brakes on in 4th gear.

Everything here under 3 yrs old.
Fibre from Node to here would fix it sweet as yes.

Had a reduced bill from sales for last 3 months.
I'm not paying for something i'm not recieving.

"Fit for service" Hmm, Not yet.

Recoup, that's interesting as our caravan rear camera screen which is only in place on my windscreen when touring, has gone sticky just as you describe.

I was going to wipe a sample area/s with various products e.g. white spirits and see what reaction I get.

Or.... maybe just contact the supplier for a suggestion.

Thanks also to Belmont Bear regards the GPS S/W download.

Pretty sure we have the same car as you which doesn't come with on board GPS.

I particularly didn't want GPS in the new car as I'm over being ripped off for outdated on board S/W when GPS's are now supplied with 'lifetime' mapping.
