Hi and thanks for letting me join. Been thinking of traveling for some time as I have been a farmer since leaving school and had a job as well as having a full time job last 30 years so have seen very little of Australia. Deiced this year it is time contracts for the farm has exchange.So 2018 looks like the year to set up and start. Love kayak fishing and free camping in old camper trailer so caravaning all new. From what I have read looking at a Toyota Landcruiser per September 2015 update, to keep away from all the new electronics. Caravan will be about 20 feet internal, with a increases payload 700 or 800kg for free camping along with gray water tank. Any input gratefully accepted. Looking forward to seeing people on the road.
Hi Mackayak, Welcome to the forum. There is plenty to see in this big country of ours so enjoy your travels when the time comes. I know nothing about caravans and tugs so will let that to others to advise you, but I do enjoy free camping and there are plenty of nice spots to do that. Cheers.

If you have been reading the forum you or you may already be aware that weights are very important on the tug and den. Don't go over the plated weights as things are getting tuffer out here.

As Dougwe has said weights are your very first starting point and don't believe those tare numbers on the ID plate get it weighed then you have a real number to work from you may find that you can only put a couple of hundred kg in the van before you reach it's gross limit, and don't think for a second that you can tow and carry the max that your tug ID plate says as you have to consider what you put in the tug including driver and passenger and the weight transferred on to the tug.
Being a farmer myself I realise you may already be aware of what I have just written so don't be offended by this post , I'm still at least one year away from where you seem to be re moving on from the farm, so good on ya for taking what is a really big step, after devoting your whole working life to farming stepping back is not easy to do.

Thanks all for the welcome there is a lot to read and any input is greatly accepted. Guru one of the things I have notice change in the last few months is some caravan makes are making bigger pay loads available if you ask. Good luck on the sale when you do it.
