Hi mezza
We tow a 3.1 tonne Supreme Territory, with our 2012 GX diesel. Last Christmas we travelled from Perth to Melbourne and averaged 21.8 litres per 100kms. That was cruising at approximately 90 to 95 kph. Make sure you use S4 on the gearbox and I knock it up to S5 when the road is fairly level. In very hilly country I also hit the power button, which seems to hold each gear for an extra second or two.
Enjoy your travels, the 200 is a great tow vehicle.

We also have similar rig may be a little heavier and although I dont calculate exact fuel consumption I wouldnt disagree with Watra's figure as an overal average. A big difference in fuel consumption from down wind to up wind and also hilly roads.
We also drive in S4 but all the time at 90 to 95 kpm slowing down on gravel roads. Have a Lovells GVM upgrade no WDH (saving 37kg weight) and currently tyres are Cooper STmaxx only because of previous offroad travel, tyre pressures at 42 psi dropping to 32 or a bit lower on gravel roads. Will switch to AT3s or similar at next replacement.
Also agree the LC200 is a great tug especially with the 3.8t GVM upgrade.

Hi Mezza

I have a MY 2014 LC 200 turbo diesel and towing a dual axle caravan at 3.2 tonne on a trip from Whyalla to Bowen in Qld I recorded the following figures for each day.

Day 1 21.34 l per 100 klms

Day 2 18.63 l per 100 klms

Day 3. 18.90 l per 100 klms

Day 4. 18.30 l per 100 klms

Day 5 21.04 l per 100 klms

Day 6. 20.52 l per 100 klms

Day 7. 18.53 l per 100 klms.

I have a torque converter lock up kit fitted and I drive in S5 and select lower gears when engine braking is required.
Unless overtaking I do not exceed 100 kph but sit close on it (GPS speed) so as to not annoy the truckies.

The above figures were on a trip where I only did somewhere between 300 to 400 klms per day as it was last February and was too damn hot to travel after lunch particularly in western NSW and Qld.

Hope this helps

Hi Mezza
I have the 2013 GLX diesel, and my van is a 22ft, tandem and weighs 2200 Kg's.
I travel at all times in cruise control at 100 km/h, and on my last trip (Perth - Central Australia via Pilbara/Kimberlies etc and return same way) my average was 18 ltr's / 100 km's.
Regards.
Hetho.

I have a 2012 GX pulls a van of 3.0t over Broardford other week all up weight was 6380kg. I always tow in S4 with power button on and never, never use cruise control whilst towing. Fuel consumption is pretty much 17 if lucky might get 16 but not often. Did get 23 on one trip but that was driving into cyclone tracy ha ha. I plod along at 90 -95 and have 285 / 75 tyres.

Cheers bass

Head/Tail winds make a lot of difference. We have had figures as low as 15 l/100k, and as high as 23 l/100k on the same road (the Nullarbor). Flat, straight road, same speed (around 90-95kph) towing about 2.8 tonnes.

These days we travel a little faster to take advantage of tail winds (closer to 100) and a little slower to reduce drag with head winds (around 90kph).

Cheers

Don't Knock Macca..he has his own fish to fry. I on the other hand am also a Nissan patrol driver..5.6l v8 298kw (400hp) 560Nm torque.
Some interesting figures have been posted and all would be pretty close to the mark. For many years the towing fraternity have fallen in love with diesel powered vehicles.Yes,most likely the price per litre being very attractive, but it does not offset the cost of servicing nor the initial price of the vehicle. At a constant 100kph. up and down hill or 110 kph in the 110 zone I return 22l/100 towing 2.8t.Also at a saving of between 15 t0 20K dollars in the initial vehicle cost I can buy a hell of a lot of petrol. Also now as years creep up who gives a **** about resale value. there are a lot of very wealthy people in the cemetery .After 45 years of caravanning this is the most comfortable and responsive vehicle I have ever owned.Might even upgrade to the latest y62 next year. In closing may I also add that it is interesting to note that Europe is going away from diesel and back to petrol as emissions are increasingly difficult to comply with.Certainly the reason why Nissan discontinued the run of GU patrols...economics on their part. Twin turbos on the LC200 Lag or emissions? Interesting times, great vehicles about now, just get out there and enjoy the scenery and forget the crap about l/100..filler er up and enjoy the scenery all you can.

Amen to that Rocky. Theirs a lot worse than Macca on here and he certainly gives good measure.

Hi Mezza,

Look out, Macka is blocking the net with his high speed typing. I feel the wind a blowing. Then comes lookout its Macka time.

So I will get in ASAP.

We have a 2012 TTD200 GXTRD. The best money we have ever spent. We tow both Van 2650kg and boat loaded 1900kg with both on tandem under carriages across Australia. Return to Exmouth with the boat we averaged 16.3 -16.8km in S5 at 102km both ways. Very rarely did it drop out of fifth. It would sit on 1800rpm all day long. We were lucky with the winds in both directions on this trip. We run 275/65 R16 BFG A/T tyres which give us an edge on torque. We never use roof racks, and the boat has the canopy removed and tower lowered to the gunnel.

The van a pop top on its maiden voyage last year, we were getting 19lt per 100km at 95-100kmph. The truck as we like to call her, can hold 292lts of juice when full to the neck.

Our GX only has two seats which saves 106kg in weight, and is made up with the extra juice in the back.

We can do Ceduna to KG with out refuelling with the boat in tow.wink

Jim

Oh! Boy! Music to our travelling souls,
The above figures are music to our travelling souls.
The above figures are what we get as we vary terrain and weather, with our Nov '96 build 80 Series LC with 4.2 L 1HZ (with aftermarket Turbo) towing a 3.5T van.
Cheers
