Hi again mezza
I have no issues with the engine braking on the 200, particularly since towing is done in 4th or 5th gear. As a matter of fact, I would say it is probably the best I have experienced. The issue of oil consumption was sorted out, I think in 2009, when Toyota redesigned the combustion chamber and is no longer a concern. The only concern, as with most common rail diesels, is the injectors being damaged due to water in the fuel, or dirty fuel. To that end, get a pre filter fitted to guarantee clean fuel, no matter what Toyota say. We picked up some dirty fuel early this year which had rust particles in it and destroyed the injectors. That cost us $6,000 including a pre filter. Having said that, I wouldn't be without my 200, particularly since I am now protected by the fuel pre filter.
Yes agree with the above.
In the older engines the inlet would clog up with oil waste due to the crankcase ventilation.
A simple fix was to fit an oil catch can.
I fitted one from new on my 2014 model and after 52,000 Kim's it has no more but a wisp of oil in the can.
It will depend on what model you buy.
If you drive in the S mode in the transmission you can select the gear for correct engine braking.
When towing S is recommended.
For all info on the 200 series I suggest you join the LCool Toyota forum. If you don't read what you want to know on there then it is probably not worth knowing.
I will warn you that the forum rules and moderation are very strict which is a good thing.
If you have a new model it has updated shift points for the transmission as well as other slight updates so all this is model dependent.

We brought this model the 2012 GXTRD of which there are 50 running around. For both the last few years of my working life, with the barn doors making work, a dream.
And life towing in retirement just a dream come true. Having both rear doors fully open with the van on, makes access in the rear a breeze. I have made every square inch useable with extra custom work completed to make it a very long term investment. I intend to run this 200 for twenty years plus. Its that good. I look after it very well, with 5000km oil and filter changes, where ever we are on the road.
The power on tap, makes overtaking very safe and quick. Pull out with 2000rpm on the dial and touch the right pedal again and hang on. I will never sell it, Ever.
Cheers Jim
