Pohms on a long visit!

G'day all.

were also newbies to the grey nomad community and poms on a visitor visa....

We have just bought a new age road owl, one of the first one. Love it!

we have a daughters, son in law and new grandson in Sydney so will be sticking mostly to NSW for our travels...

any tips, welcome specialy on free or cheap sites welcome.

Sadly our visa means we cannot work and have to tragically return to the UK in 11 months. nono Unless they change the visa rules!!

glad to be part of your community!

Keith and Carol

G'day Wylie foxes and welcome to the forum.  Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit.  First recommendation would have to be for Wikicamps a cheap, once only fee software giving details of many cheap or free campsites in Australia.  Buyer beware though as it is publically driven and sometimes points to places where you should not be camping or info not fully up to date!  But still very worth the outlay.

Welcome to the gang Keith and Carol, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I can't see the Visa rules changing any time soon so just enjoy the OZ playground while you can.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

I don't think you have to go home after 11 months?
Maybe just nick over to NZ for a week or so and come back.

Cheers,
Peter

As Graeme said WikiCamps can be downloaded on to Phone or Tablet www.wikicamps.com.au/ elsewise purchase Camps 8 List of Free and low cost camps Australia wide www.campsaustraliawide.com/camps-8/

Note in Australia It is illegal to Camp in many public areas - not like Great Britain where you can put your caravan just about anywhere there is a lay by.

Free camping is easier in Australia than it is in England.
Scotland and Ireland are pretty good, but not England.
France and Germany are wonderful compared to Australia, as are many other European countries. There are also some where it is illegal.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi All

Thanks vey much for the helpful advice.

Camping and Caravanning here is very different to the UK. There is very little free/wild camping in the UK now, even Scotland where there used to be lots it is now banned in many of the national parks, mainly because, as ever, people sadly abuse the facility, leave litter, make fires, cut down trees..... We worked in the UK for the camping and Caravanning club as site managers mainly in Scotland so know how much the free camping has changed. Your sites here are generally better equipped (camping kitchens are far away better than anything in the UK) have better facilities and are more relaxed!

We're loving our travels so far, just got as far as Norah Head and the entrance, we will defo sign up to wiki camps and look out for the camps8 book.

What a great forum to be part of!!

Thanks!

Keith and Carol

Hi Pete

we wish!!!

they changed the rules recently and the visitor visa is explicit! 12 months max here then at least 6 months out of the country...

We have until October here but then we will (as they say) be back!

Cheers

Keith and Carol
