Looking for some advice to shorten the time on doing a seat upgrade. We have a Jayco Heritage van that has an "L" shaped seating arrangement. The seats are just too soft and hence uncomfortable so a change needs to be made. I'm not interested in replacing or redesigning the whole area to accommodate ie swivel chairs but would like some ideas as to what others might have done to solve the awful seating in the van. Thanks Heaps.
I'd go to a Clark Rubber store (or on of the newer rubber shops) and explain your problem - they can custom make foam cushion to whatever hard/softness you like by layering different densities of foam together. They can do this in front of you and once you've worked out the hard/softness you want they can then unzip your old foam from the cushion and use it as a template for the new foam which then slips back into the old cushion cover....easy, fast and not expensive.
Go on a quiet day - Mon or Tues are good days. I've done just this with car seat bases.
I took out our L shape seating and installed 2 recliner chairs which were great the main table packs up against the wall and a small table is there for drinks. The wife then had a back op and the recliners did not work for her so purchased 2 leather office chairs which tilt back. I have more photos if you would like them. Send me your email address.
Thanks for your replies I really appreciate the input. I'll talk to Clark rubber and see what they can do firstly and then if no joy there I'll re visit the idea of chairs but looking at the photos I'd say we would be struggling to have sufficient room. Next to our dining area, is our very handy pantry cupboard that goes all the way to the roof and I suspect that this cupboard also adds to the structural design of the van. Removing that poses several problems.
Clark rubber in our area had an upholstery service which replaced the foam to a thickness and firmess specification which we agreed on after they gave us some samples to try.
There is not enough room to fit lounge type chairs in the L section.
