Most likely a damaged or worn seal. I had a similar issue & priced a set of seals at about $78 but decided to go with a complete new tank at $128 delivered from CaravansPlus, that was about 3 years ago.

I like to see a little bit of water remaining on top of the flap seal after flushing as it helps to keep the seal from drying out and keeps any smells out of the van.
When it's time to empty, simply slide the cassette out a little, turn the yellow knob enough to let the water drain into the cassette, close the flap again and pull the cassette fully out.
If you're getting any water into the bottom of the cassette compartment you could slip a couple of bits of lino under the cassette to pack it up a bit and make the seal a slightly tighter fit.
My suggestion, when it is time to empty the cassette go inside & open the flap a bit, let any water drain, close flap, go outside & remove the (dry) cassette.
You're welcome,
