Some advice needed

Doing and oil change on the ranger .I had 5lts of one brand of oil but Need 7.4. Thats ok I put what I had in then when

up to the local parts shop but they do not have the same brand. One beauty of being in a small country town.

Question can I mix 2 diff brands or should I drain what I put in out and fill with one brand only .

Thanks for your help but please only IF you have some knowledge or experience.

Yes I do know I should off checked how much I had but it was in a 20lt drum.

Provided both oil types are suited for that vehicle/engine it is OK to have them mixed.

AdventureTrek. Both oils are recommended for the ranger. Is just over the min line with the first oil,so should not take more then
2lts to fill up.

Happens every day, get the oil as close as you can and maybe do an early change later. I have seen some bad mixes over my 40 odd years as a mechanic to get people outa trouble without drama. Just try not to make it a regular thing

Main thing is not to mix Synthetic Oil with Mineral Oil.

 Don't think that is right - according to Google it is OK.  I thought the same till I checked.

Hi Woody2 smile

If you topup with a similar spec diesel oil there will be no detrimental effects. No worries at all really. Done it many times.

However as the oil is above the minimum line you can safely drive to another place to get some of the same oil as the original if you wanted to. That would be OK as that is the point of having a min line on the dip stick. hmm

Something to note for members with cars fitted with diesel particulate filters, those engines require very specific oil types, DPFs are very expensive to replace.
