Tyre Size

One for the experts.

My van is fitted with Kumo LT 195R / 14c and my spare is LT 185R / 14c.

Any drama with the different size if I need to use the spare

Thanks

Hendo

No, just a bit narrower.

Not ideal because braking will be assymetric and that could cause a serious problem in an emergency.

Cheers,
Peter

use in an emergency change as soon as you can get the other tyre repaired or replaced its like using one of those little spares that come on the yellow rim reduce speed drive with care

Most modern cars have ****ty little wheels that serve as a spare to save space in the boot compartment , its not meant to be a permanent fix but to get you out of a pickle , just drive a bit slower. Might pay to get yourself a tyre plug kit and 12v compressor as a back up if you get more than one puncture .

You will be fine . But be aware it wonât be as stable on the limit . Change or get new tyre at next service opportunity.. your not ona race track where speed, time matters !!

While the 185 series tyre will get you out of trouble, the 195/14 tyre will have a slightly greater load carrying capacity which would come into play with the ATM of your van and associated legalities. Some insurance companies if in the case of accident could give you a hard time.

It wont cause you any drama's at all it will most likely have the same carrying capacity as it is a l/t it is most likely the rolling distance and unless it is on a different offset rim it will track the same as the rest you havent even said if the van is single axle or tandem if you get a flat put it on and it will be fine, you could check the build date which is stamped on the side wall and if its over 5 years maybe change it with a new tyre the same size as the rest

HI
On a van its done for the increased load capacity . A bi product of this is a larger load /tyre size can run a little lower pressures . This has to be calculated for this comparison probably only a few psi in it.
The 195 will be wider , higher , more traction than the 185. The 185 might also be quicker to lock the brakes .
Handling of the van may be upset a little with 1 side sitting higher .

In day to day usage u may not notice it but in an emergency who knows ??
