After a lot of looking the web and Gumtree we have made the first step to becoming Grey Nomads with a vehicle to travel in.
I found the comments on this Forum useful even before I joined the Forum for deciding what vehicle to purchase.
Most old Motor Homes down here have lots of clics and are worn out. We saw one with just under 500,000 clics and most others around 300,000 clics.
But I was surprised to find one with 173,000 clics, 29 years old and looking like new.
As soon as we entered the motorhome you could tell that it had been lovingly cared for, it was immaculate, there is not a mark inside, the care taken by the owner to look after the vehicle is unbelievable.
The Test Drive was a bit different in that I haven't driven a larger vehicle since I left the Army Reserve driving Mogs and Macks 20 years ago, but being a 5 speed, normally aspirated diesel it was easy to drive.
In Tassie the drives are not that long and we will get to the mainland on the Spirits with normal fare for a car even though the Motor Home is 6+ metres.
We brought the Motor Home because of the history on the one owner and how it was used, the condition it is in, even the rear storage where the power cables and levelling ramps are kept you could eat off the floor, the Thetford toilet is immaculate, the oven is clean as, the single beds are like new, near new blackout curtains.
The funds have been transferred and it has Comprehensive Insurance cover with a Full Service and Safety Check coming up in a week or so.
We think we will happy, yes it's old and slow on hills and there are plenty of hills in Tassie.
The Motor Home has done a lap of Aus driven by a little old lady by herself who sadly now is no longer with us.

Thanks Woody, the Coaster is a Deceased Estate item and no one knows about the electrics, gas or anything.
The Coaster has only done 41,000 kms in 15 years. The Coaster gave a good drive back home today, only 50 kilometres. There is no TV or Microwave as the previous owner didn't watch Tv or use a Microwave. The oven has never been used. There is a Wineguard RV/TV Antenna fitted but never used. There are 4 x extra Double Mains Power point fitted with a Compliance Sticker.
ha love ya comments on hill climbs, we recently collected our Toyota Coaster from Adelaide and soon encountered the Adelaide Hills on our return trip to Victoria, and so the name 'Chugger' was born - however after the initial embarrassment we learned to get a good run up, to lower our expectations slightly, to enjoy cruising the flats and to keep laughing

Had the 12 Volt System checked out today by Auto Electrician and all is good and now the switches have numbers and what they operate. Gas and Plumbing checks being done tomorrow and a full vehicle service booked in for next Monday. Security Door barrel lock fails to work so new one ordered. 15 years since the Coaster was converted to Motorhome so I thought it time for 100% check over.
All good with the Gas and Plumbing check today. The gas hot water heater is the older model which requires to be lit manually but no big deal, gas works ok in fridge and 4 burner gas top.

We visited a Dump Point yesterday to empty the Thetford Toilet Cassette. The local council one has the blue container with lid and fresh water. Upon opening the cassette door and sliding out the cassette I could help but notice I thought it was a new one. It didn't look like any of the ones on Youtube that show how repair and clean them. Upon emptying there was no much to empty, but under where the cassette sits there is a little recess that has the Thetford Aqua Rinse sample 150ml bottle which had just enough to add to the water tank. Looks like this sample container is the only one that has been used for the last 15 years. The O ring on the cassette opening was clean and dry and has never had any lubricant on it, the inside of the cassette looked like new but in reality it is 15 years old.
