Lake Yambuck, South West Victoria

Took the Chugger out for its first weekend away with us as its operators. Headed for the caravan park at Yambuck Lake, in South West Victoria, about one hour drive south of Warrnambool and a similar distance north west of Portland, and just up the road from Port Fairy. Nice little park on the lakeside, a short walk through dunes to the coast and beach. Plenty of easy access lakeside fishing spots along with a decent boat ramp and a couple of pontoon jettys. The park is operated by Moyne Shire. caretakers are a pair of hard cases, they will take the piss out of anyone and anything so bring a sense of humour. Good quality toilet and shower blocks, small kitchen space and a decent bbq/gathering shelter. Playground for the kids but its down the track by the jetty so can be out of sight of your park. Nice, green sites with river views for nice sunsets. Plenty of unpowered and tent sites, around 20 or so powered sites. Most are reasonably level however some are not, so let them know if you are reliant upon wedges to level your unit. The riverside sites can be a bit exposed during high winds, as we discovered this past weekend and the wind can whip sand off the dunes. It is a popular site so best to make a booking. Its worth noting that as the park operates on tank water they do not allow you to top up water tanks - you can do that at Southcombe Park in Port Fairy.

Thanks for the report Chugger. What is the pricing like to stay at this park. We are always on the lookout for suitable camps in Vic.

Good report folks. Lovely spot. Good surf fishing there too.

The historic blue-stone Yambuk Pub back up the road on the highway have great take away & eat in meals. If the fish aren't biting the fish & chips are top notch.

Stayed their about three times, popular with duck hunters in season. Did you have a go on the giant slide?
