Mike & Tina here - late 50s. Immigrants in 2002 from OLD South Wales. Just bought a 2004 Jayco Freedom Poptop 17ft with a view to seeing how we get on with camping. Former Yachties and towed many boats and the odd horse trailer. Currently using a 2l petrol Outlander 2WD but would love to get recommendations for a better (but budget) vehicle that is not too fuel thirsty. Thinking about a Turbo Diesel Pajero.
Old IT guy here so hope to be helping with techie queries such as MyFi units and improving data reception (I use Kodi because I hate Foxtel/Murdoch). Lots and lots of questions already about firepits, caravan setup, powered jockey wheels and so on but I'm sure the answers are in the forum somewhere!
G'day Mike and Tina and welcome to the forum. Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit. Cars and Vans are to personal taste I reckon so try not to give too many recommendations for either - a car is just a means to get you from A to B for me .
Powered jockey wheels - we got one from Star in Malaga though they no longer stock them. It was fine on the flat but struggled on a slope, but I knew I was on the edge of the specs with our van. Get one with a double point clamp plate as our single clamp bent alarmingly on tight turns up a slope. Search engine here is OK but could be better in my opinion.
Welcome to the gang Mike and Tina, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Have a good look at all the different sections of the forum and ask any questions in the appropriate one that way it can be found easier when it gets to the dungeons. Give your subject a good heading so the search panel can find it easily.
Mostly nice people around here and only a couple bite. Enjoy.
Have no idea what 'MyFi untis' are or is sorry. I only discovered WiFi Calling a few moons back and that has helped me going crazier than I already am (beat ya Woody).
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Good to see that you will be happy to contribute to the forum, when you settle in
As not many people come to this part of the forum
If you have a specific question, it always pays to ask them, in that part of the forum which is more applicable
As far as a towing vehicle goes, I can not help you as I only ever had a 6 cylinder petrol Ford Falcon, towing my old 17 foot Viscount pop top caravan (about the same size as you caravan) My total fuel consumption for a trip around Australia came out at 7˝ kilometers for each litre used If the hills in old South Wales, are the same as those in North Wales, then the Australian hills are bigger
Thanks all. Just FYI, a MyFi unit is like a mobile with wireless tethering for your computer except it has no phone functions and can support (usually) up to 5 computers/tablets. Since most of my video entertainment is web based and I also still provide IT support, having good Internet access is pretty important. I'll be playing with aerials etc to improve signal/speed and may post something in the future.
Kodi is a free program that will run on most phones, computers and tablets and will allow you to watch pretty much anything without fees (apart from live sport).
And its welcome from us two 2 MikeL
I use RV WIFI and find it works well for us when we get to go traveling for a spell from W...
now Doug did those kangaroos get lose in the top paddock again ? You better cal on uncle AL to round them up for ya mate

Hi mike and Tina we are newbies to this as well, we are in Landsdale just around the corner from you we have a 2018 jayco silverline and the tug is a 2017 ford Everest. Where I park the van I use a Optitec caravan mover and park the van in forward and down a slight slope. I find this is so easy to use and the service from the supplier was great. Its rated to 3.5t and moves it with ease if you would like to see it in operation just send me a message and you are welcome to visit. Regards Paul.
