New to the forum but I've been looking at the site for a couple of months now. We have just sold our house and have put down deposits on a new 4x and a caravan. The house settles the same time as the purchases are finalised and we've got precious little time to get organised. Probably says a lot about me that I'm sitting here on a forum instead of packing - but hey - I'm educating myself so that I'll be more efficient when the rapidly approaching time comes .
Currently in Tasmania and get on the boat back to the mainland on 19 June, so we've got about 4 days to get used to life on the road. I know a lot of people frown on it but we'll be travelling with 2 well behaved, very old dogs as well as 2 geriatric cats. Fortunately for us they're already well travelled and have all been on the Spirit before, so they know the drill. The dogs have long and short leads and are well used to both. The cats have their own separate enclosure similar to what they currently live in, just portable. I like to think that we're responsible pet owners and they'll all be sleeping inside the van with us.
We are very much looking to learn from and hopefully catch up with some of the wonderful members on our journey to who knows where. I'm now off to ask a question in the General Forum. I've read the rules and will do my best to keep to them.
Thanks Doug - it's a good thing that I've already read up a fair bit on etiquette and know that you're pulling my good leg about the generator at 2.00am. That would go down so well !
I'm looking forward to my 6th trip on the Spirit, think I've finally got it all sorted. Load, find the bar, buy wine, drink wine. Eat something, sleep and wait for my wake up call. It's always fun, people are so excited. Last time I met a young deaf man who had gone to school with my daughter in Tuncurry, NSW, many years ago. Such a small world.
Yeah, I've copped a lot over the tipsy thing in years past, some of it plain offensive. I'm too lazy and unimaginative to come up with anything else these days and have finally grown a thicker skin. It's often good for a giggle though. You should note that it is tipsy though and not totallymagottedpixie (well, not often lol!)

And its welcome from us two 2 tipsypixie you have done it , good on ya , you will enjoy traveling around the big island , its simple physics really the bigger the island the less tipsy ya get , Doug should know this, having rolled around this big island for some time , sometimes he even floats , hmm pixies hmmmm , but only at greens , just be careful those happy hours dont start tooo early after noon , and enjoy every moment .

Thanks Woody - you gave me a giggle. I've done a bit of travelling on my own and find that the more I drive the less I drink. I'm just too buggered after a day at the wheel, one glass of wine and it's lights out. Last trip I was away for a fortnight and lost 5kgs, too tired to eat much either . It'll be a lot different this time around, taking it all a lot slower. Got the rest of my life to get where I'm going.
I hope it all goes well for you. I think you are taking a bit of a risk taking off so quickly - you really need to do a few short trips to sort out any issues with the van and also to work out what you need to take and where to put it all! So hope you don't learn the hard way! It is a wonderful way of life so take it slowly and don't plan too far ahead in case you find somewhere you like a want to rest for a while! Thanks Bulariver - we're not exactly taking off unprepared. We've both done quite a lot of towing (large cabin cruiser (3.5 tonne) large horse floats and trucks) and we have adequate access to the 'van to get it packed and sorted well before we leave. We'll be doing short bursts for 4 days around Hobart, then we're off to Devonport, then off the boat and a little 2 hour journey to our next pit stop. We'll be there for about a week before pushing on slowly. Got nowhere else to be after that until November, so won't be rushed. Your kind thoughts and sentiment are appreciated.
