Im looking at one of these antennas and was hoping to get some opinions on them. Are they any good etc?
We purchased one of the, the "foldaway antenna" before we did our lap in 2016
The unit has a piece that you attach to the van cladding to insert the cable through to the tv with a screw in cap to stop drafts. We ordered ours with a booster but most times didnt need it.
We took the sellers advice and ordered an added length of pole. It is simple to erect, with clips you fix to your exterior wall that are quite robust. Turn both rabbit ears to 45 degrees, erect, thread the cable through the wall fitting and then tune.
With tuning you can download an app called "my switch" which shows you the direction the signal comes from and zoom out you'll see how far it originates from. You are wise to have a compass handy as the top of your phone has to be pointing north. Then turn your antenna towards the signal.
On the odd occasion signal isnt there only a satellite system like vast would pick up the signal anyway. Also sometimes slight change of antenna direction was needed to stop the loss of signal. Luckily I installed the antenna where I could view the tv through the window to fine tune.
For $150 or so its good value, robust, comes with a carry bag and I'd recommend it. We do not however get disappointed if there is no signal...we just enjoy the evening.

Prior to us using Foxtel I purchased the Explorer Caravan aerial and found it to be very good!
When others around us couldn't get a decent/any signal we were getting good full strength signal.
This aerial is no toy and can be used vertical or horizontal depending on the local transmitters. However I understand that most or all transmissions are now vertical (?).
Have a look at explorer-rv.com.au they still look good with good info and kits etc.
