We own an Avida motorhome built on a Iveco Daily 50C18A, when travelling we get intermittent error codes on the computer dash display, first it flashes there is an ABS & ESP brake failure then says service and sometimes get an error code to say there is a gearbox failure which does interfere and locks up the gears. We pull over switch the engine off, start up again and everything goes back to normal. Been to 2 Iveco dealers in Perth and they cannot and the problem. Can anyone advise us what the problem may be? Many thanks
Most likely a poor electrical connection and my guess, because of the diversity of errors, is a poor ground connection... but whereabouts that may be is anyone's guess...?
Sadly, dealers do not have the skills necessary to diagnose complex electronics - this is, and will become more so, a major issue with modern motor vehicles.
If your vehicle is still under warranty I strongly suggest you put everything in writing to both Avida and Iveco and *INSIST* they get it sorted ASAP because it's not going to go away.

I have recently had a similar problem with my IVECO 50C18.
Started getting the following:
ESP Failure
Braking System Failure 018
Service:
I would turn the engine off, wait a minute and start up with message gone. When I started getting the message every 10km I thought I had better do something about it.
An authorised IVECO Service Centre reckoned that a recent wheel alignment had offset the steering wheel and this was being sensed and causing the error message. They may have been right. After they fixed the steering wheel centering I have travelled 1000km with one occurrance of the message.
I used the IVECO to jump start my toad and this appears to have given the ECU heartburn. I have now received
Check Engine Failure 148. A 1minute Stop/start resulted in Engine failure 148 reappearing, flashing 4 times then disappearing. Returned twice more after 1min Stop/starts.
Did a 15min Stop/start. Message did not reappear.
The Service Centre reckons the system needs several minutes in the OFF condition to allow memory to dissipate. This is consistent with me not receiving any more Failure messages after having switched OFF for 15 minutes.
So tomorrow, just in case, I will be at the entrance to another Service Centre waiting for them to open and look at these messages. Hopefully it will be as simple as clearing the old messages.

Get to know an Iveco Tech ( either business or private), so if your out and about away from home you can call him and query fault codes/problems/possible solutions.
Have a copy of the workshop manual ( either hard copy or digitial) so if away from home with a willing non Iveco mechanic he has the info to assist solving your vehicle problem.

Many thanks for replies, bought motorhome second hand and out of warranty it only had 27,000 kms on the clock, working thru problem with Iveco dealer in Perth, though last week paid them $440.00 to replace brake sensor they thought might be the problem but 15 minutes after leaving them problem started again! Now they think it might be a grub screw on gearbox? So back to them we go with fingers crossed. Jenny
