Some 18 months ago, my supervisor at AIMS (Townsville) learnt some (hard) lessons -

1. do not fly the drone in a V-shaped canyon especially if there is water in it (drone lost signal, crashed & the $270 (oops) battery rolled into the water).
2. do not fly the drone off a moving boat as it will "Home" at the GPS reading where it took off from!! Nearly more heartache until he worked out how to control it manually!

Mate, if you haven't done it yet, you should familiarise yourself with the CASA rules re drone flying. Just looking at your videos I reckon you broke a number of rules and if caught/reported it could cost you a fair bit.

When I bought my drone, these are the ones that stood out when I read the laws:

Cannot fly higher than 120m.

Drone must be in eye sight at all times, not in sight on a phone. If you cannot see it with your eyes, you are breaking the law.

Cannot fly within 30m of any other persons.

Flying over houses & filming is a breach of privacy.

I read the CASA website along with a couple of other sites. Last thing you want is to cop a huge fine.

Does you drone not return to the phone operating it.
I have the option to return to take off site or to the phone. It will follow a moving target. I bought mine for checking out sites before I entered but now I an no travel I am going to use it on my travels on the Murray River.
Just press the button and it fly's back at designated height and then descends in front of me so I can grab it as it hovers in front of me.

Droning is great .. Have (2) Phantom 4's and enjoy using them. Yes, one does need a sense of responsibility and adherence to regulation protocols, but immense fun can be had. Out here in the boondocks (Boomi NSW), I do have a greater freedom than many in built-up areas.

Common sense applies .. keep doing it !

It does sound like you're still enjoying life .. Excellent ! ..

Point of interest though. If your drone is set to return to a previously recorded GPS location which is a common format, I would seriously not move the houseboat whilst flying the drone. Unless, of course your drone has a set of "floaties" to land on.

My newest Phantom 4 will also take a photo (together with a GPS loc) and identify BOTH before it will land automatically on being sent home. Unfortunately, one young lad in the UK found out the hard way. He was out on a fishing boat with his old man when the signal was lost and so it was automatically "sent home".

It was never recovered .. presumed lost at sea.

I say all this light-heartedly as we can never be over cautious .. but enjoy the hobby. I'll see if I can find the post where a fish is caught by a drone flying from a beach .. worth a giggle as it nearly ends up in the drink too .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iba7kCnkFos

Hi Biggles. My drone will return to the phone and a moving one.
I dont envisage any problems in the boat except that it comes straight down from return height to about 1 mtr straight in front.
It will then follow this phone till the drone is retrieved and twisted 90 degrees to turn off.
I can adjust this height but the default is 10 metres for ground clearance even though it has its own ground avoidance system etc.
If my power gets to 30% on phone or drone it returns to the phone or nearest last known point HAHA if set to return to phone, or it will return to the lift off point where it got its first GPS reading. I always (so far) have used return to phone and works great. It also does the same if you fly out of range it reverses back into range.

I am still trying my best to spend the kids inheritance LOL
Had a curve ball about 2.5 years ago but living with it
