Hi, We have a 2013 VW Tiguan and a 2004 Jayco Freedom (newly purchased the van from QLD). We are having a great deal of trouble getting the indicators on the van to work, has been with VW then an auto electrician who specialises in caravans and no joy!
Any clues? The car and van are going into VW again to be looked at again and if they cant sort it out in one day we shall stay overnight in the van till they get it fixed! Very frustrating as we cant get in registered in Victoria and do our maiden trip!
I seem to recall someone having a similar problem. I've had a look but can't find the article. I must also say I am not an electrician.
The article was about having LED lights in the tug and Incandescent on the Van. As most wiring for the caravan is taken from the rear lighting part of the loom I'm told it may be a conflict with LED and incandescent globes. Wouldn't be too hard to get a couple of LED globes and put them in the van.
Had an issue with van brake lights where the car had a circuit breaker that kicked in when more than 20A went to the caravan lights. With 4 lamps of more than 5A each, the lights switched off first foot on the brake until engine restarted. Took 2 lights out and all works. Took a lot of effort to find that out. Nothing to do with LED except but I Tried 4 x LED and all they did was flash like my blinkers. LED indicators triggered by a non-Led compliant flasher can will not flash at all.
Chris, you did not say exactly what was happening with the lights. What are they doing or not doing? Do you have LED lights on the van? You need the load similar to that of incandescent globes to get things to operate. If you have LED indicator lamps on the van then you need to put extra load resistors across each indicator lamp circuit an all should be OK.

HI
make a test loom with incandescent and a 2nd with Leds . Plug these into t/plug and check results . Most likely u will need resistors as pete has mentioned above .
The way our ute is wired up, the trailer lights are powered via relays. So the stop, park and indicators activate relays, the trailer wiring comes directly off the battery and has no effect on the vehicle computer no matter what is coupled up. May be you could suggest this to your electrician.
