Seems all are "old " topics on " search". Just finished my govt test, with a positive result. Visit specialist and on the table within three weeks. Super yucky prepicol the night before. On recovery " here is your appointment with surgeon next week". His opening remarks were " you are a lucky man"!. We removed two polyps, one at 3mm, one at 10mm. All good".

Come back in three years for another one however. BUT he says that bowel cancer will be a very rare event in 20 years if everyone over 50 does their Govt Bowel screen test on time, as polyps are the sole cause of bowel cancer and can easily be removed on the day.

it is a shame that the Irish invented the Prepicol, three sachets, to be sure, to be sure, to be sure!

Actually had a follow up call today from Bowel Screen mob, to make sure all had gone well. they were pleased I had posted here about the Absolute Importance of completing this P I T A process.

My test came back positive 6 days after colonoscopy in theatre for 10 hrs. Stage 3c cancer (gov test every 2 years ) camera every 12 months now ( 2 )and still cannot stomach that rotten stuff.

I've had a colonoscopy every 5yrs since I was 33 now 68.
Only once had polyps removed, better than having to wear
a bag or being 6' under.
It's not the taste of prep, it's the sore BUTT after all the wiping.

 Sounds like you need to select a new surgeon. I have had no after pain. The worst part has been the pre-prep phase.

Bit of follow up, are you all up to date with the test every two years??, ours slipped through somehow, so had to ask for new kits. All good on the results though.

There is nothing fun about any of this.

I just had colonoscopy  number 3. Polyps removed each time.

The prep is the worst part - the rest I just sleep through :)

I've had the test twice both time the prep was the worst part the last time it splashed sooo bad it took the paint off the loo wall no wonder my bum burned.

Lucy, that sounds like the Tip Turkeys-Brissie Games Mascot- that fly over our house. I swear they drink the battery acid at the tip recycle area and then dump it on our concrete, evil black sh.t that takes alot of scrub to get off.

Colonoscopy and Endoscopy on a regular basis for the last 25 yrs. Prep has changed a lot in the last few years, it's shorter and less involved. The procedures themselves aren't required as often too. Still far from pleasant but better than the possible outcome if ignored.

I found a hand held bidet from Kogan along with Proctosedyl helps a lot with treating the 'ring of fire' during the preparation period. The Proctosedyl releaves the sting and the bidet reduces the need to wipe.

To those who read this and havent had a colonoscopy, the preparation is not as bad as some are making it sound.

It is a bit uncomfortable, but really not too problematic.

Certainly nothing to be worried about, or to expect too much pain.

I understand that doctors don't want to do a colonoscopy after you are 75, maybe because the government (Medicare) don't fund the operation( don't know if its true), or other reasons.

Why is it always the government?

There is a wealth of information available online as to why there is a cut off at age 75, it has absolutely nothing to do with government policy and every thing to do with the fact that you're rapidly approaching your use by date.

A google search will enlighten you.

Over the age of 75 is not a barrier to having colonoscopy - if you are showing any of the predictive signs of bowel cancer (like blood in stool) - Free Federally funded poop test kits stop at 75 as the chances of developing cancer and having a fatality over that age with the cancer being cause of demise is rare. It's like Prostate cancer developing over age 75 - Many men die with prostate cancer but not from it. As Santa said "Use by date" comes into the funding calculation.
