Towing a vehicle and license requirements

Your driver's licence determines the GVM of the vehicle that you are allowed to drive.
The vehicle specifications (GVM and GCM) determine the mass of the trailer that you may tow. The GVM and GCM of Toyota Coasters varies.
You need to share this information before any useful comment can be made.

Check ratings and Masses www.caravancouncil.com.au/compliance You most probably will need to get an Australian driver's licence if you plan on spending a couple of years over here suggest you get it in the same State as your Coaster is currently registered in. Check with that State's Dept of Motor Transport.

Welcome to the gang Shakler, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I won't add much more to above as it can get very confusing indeed, only to say, if you decide to go ahead with your plan and need to get a Aussie licence you might just as well go for the 'Light Rigid' that way you are covered if need be. An endorsement on your current licence might be all that is needed. I am not really sure why I said that though as it just came to mind.

As for this section of this great forum being the 'Introduction' section and not many people visit here, may I suggest you pop your question in the 'General' section and just mention you have introduced yourself here already. I'm one for using the appropriate sections as that is why our 'webmaster' set it up that way, to find things easier later down the track. IMO it is more suited to the section I suggest.

Basically the tech guys, were asking you for the weights of the Toyota Coaster

Some Toyota Coasters require a truck licence, because of the weight
It depends on the weights of the vehicle, on what weight of second vehicle you can tow

I will add, that some couples have been caught out, in the past, with Toyota Coasters

One person has had a truck licence, when something happens to this person, the other person who only had a car licence, was unable to legally drive it
