Hi all
A new member from nz. Two couples hiring caravans and tow cars next year for three months starting and finishing in Melbourne 1 June to end August. We have vans etc sorted. None on us have been there before. I would be very grateful to get some ideas on an itinerary for our trip. Both couples late 60s but active and walks etc all good. Dont want to spend our whole trip madly driving but also dont mind covering the km if needed to see something special. Any advice will be gratefully received. We are motor caravan members in nz but understand we cant join the same one there as we will have caravans oh vans are 22 foot self contained but not off road suitable, tow vehicles are soft 4wd. Who should we join like our NZMCA for great travel websites etc. again thanks and regards Allan
G'day Allan and welcome to the forum. Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit. Other than 'pick this Place' there is also a recommended places thread
We did 6500 km around NSW, over the New Year 9500 km in 2 months Lorne to Elliston Eyre Peninsula. This year 17700 up to Kakadu anticlockwise to Elliston, then back to Sydney. 6 weeks, 2 months & 3 months. We did not rush & didn't have a time limit, but I would not want to do these distances any quicker.
You may be able to knock over a lot of km in a day but the problem is it is day after day, week after week and month after month. You need to pace yourself.
From a Sydney perspective:
Sydney to Ubirr 4023 km
Ubirr to Perth 4076 km
Perth to Sydney 3934 km
Then add side trips! I would buy a paper map of WA, is hits home when you have some of these numbers printed in front of you!
I hope you enjoy your trip. Look up quarantine issue across state boarders & within states so you are not throwing out fruit and vegetables unnecessarily. You are stopped and inspected at the boarders.

As I live on the west coast of Australia, I have no idea what organisation would be suitable for you
I can recommend the Camp Australia book, (think new edition comes our about February 2019)
It has the free/donation/low cost/paid caravan park sites
It may be useful for you in planning your three month road trip
