suspension

Hi all we got the Lovells GVM upgrade on our 200 series during the week , they fitted HD springs on the front as it has the Toyo steel bull bar and HDB spring set on the back as our T/B weight of the van is nearly 300 kg and I nhave steel drawers full of tools plus a fridge and other gear . my wife didn't like the fact its now at least 50mm higher and its harder for her to get in and out now. Has anyone else had longer coils fitted and did they settle after a while . The front has adjustment but to lower the rear means a lighter spring. I measured it yesterday when the van was attached and it dropped 30mm front up 10mm.

I had Pedder's put 30mm four years ago - Patrol is still 30mm higher. Install a grab handle above door (if not OME on Toyota).

Hi
heavy duty springs canbe made to any height . The coils will settle in but only 10mm only .
The installers should be aware of the height of the aftermarket springs eg higher than standard either on paper or at least measured b4 and after install .

A better installer is clearly needed and u have found out just how slack suspension places canbe . Try dobinsons next time . Some places can actually order what ever u want .
The key with suspension is to make it do just the job with a small xtra margin . To little bottoms out . To hard suspension never works .

I had my upgrade carried out by Equipe Auto Parts in Adelaide which are a Lovells agent.

Prior to them even considering any modification I was given a form that I had to complete in detail of the accessories that I had fitted to my vehicle.
Once filled out I was given options as to what I wanted and my request was that I achieved the legal upgrade of the GVM and GCM with the minimum amount of suspension lift. It was then that I was advised that my suspension would be 50 mm higher than standard.
This did not come as any surprise as I was informed before any work was undertaken.

I made the wise decision not to mention this to the Left Hand Front passenger and 15 months on she still thinks that the vehicle is getting harder to get into due to old age taking over although she is quite used to it now and I dont get any complaints.
The 200 does have an assistance grab handle to help when climbing in.
The vehicle is much better on the road with the upgrade as it has taken the 200 series wallow out of the suspension and made it a lot more sure footed without making it ride like a buckboard.

My vehicle has settled about 10 ml in height as I was told it would and I am very happy with the outcome and the piece of mind.
